The title compound, C(5)H(4)Br(2)S(4), consists of a statistically planar, 4-bromo-1,3-dithiole-2-thione unit [maximum deviation from the ring plane 0.001 (2) Å], with a bromo-ethyl-sulfanyl substituent in the 5-position. In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular S⋯S [3.438 (15) and 3.522 (15) Å] and S⋯Br [3.422 (14) and 3.498 (14) Å] inter-actions generate a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture.

In the title mol-ecule, CHBrO, the di-hydro-indene moiety is essentially planar but with a slight twist in the saturated portion of the five-membered ring. The meth-oxy groups lie close to the above plane. In the crystal, π-stacking inter-actions between six-membered rings form stacks of mol-ecules extending along the axis direction, which are linked by weak C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Br hydrogen bonds.

Aiming to obtain the more effective pathogen inhibitive ingredients and explore the influence of introducing different heterocyclic units to carvacrol and thymol esters, twenty ester derivatives with different heterocyclic units were synthesized. And the antifungal activity of title compounds against five plant pathogenic fungi was evaluated by mycelium growth rate method. The results showed that some carvacrol and thymol esters showed good to excellent antifungal activity, and compound 9d (4-bromo-5-isopropyl-2-methylphenyl picolinate) exhibited a broad antifungal spectrum.

In the title structure, C8H6BrNS, the molecules are planar with the exception of the methyl H atoms. In the crystal, molecules are linked by intermolecular C-H⋯N interactions to form ribbons parallel to the b axis. Groups of ribbons are arranged in a herringbone pattern to form a layered structure parallel to the ab plane.

In the title compound, C(12)H(15)BrF(3)N(3)O(3)S, which has potential herbicidal activity, the mol-ecule is twisted, as indicated by the C-S-C-C torsion angle of 67.86 (19)° for the atoms linking the ring systems. An intra-molecular C-H⋯F short contact occurs and inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions link the mol-ecules in the crystal.
