In the title coordination polymer, [AgTb(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(C(7)H(4)NO(4))(C(2)O(4))(0.5)(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Tb(III) ion is eight-coordinated by three O atoms from three different pydc (H(2)pydc = pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid) ligands, one O atom from one Hpydc ligand, two O atoms from one oxalate ligand and two water mol-ecules in a distorted square-anti-prismatic geometry. The Ag(I) ion is coordinated in an almost linear fashion by two pyridyl N atoms from one pydc and one Hpydc ligand and has weak inter-actions with two carboxyl-ate O atoms. The carboxyl-ate groups of pydc and Hpydc ligands link Tb centers, forming a one-dimensional chain. The oxalate adopts a tetra-dentate bis-chelating coordination mode, connecting the chains into a two-dimensional layer. These layers are further assembled via [Ag(pydc)(Hpydc)] pillars and O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional coordination framework.

Four new praseodymium(III) metal-organic compounds varying in dimensionality from 0D to 3D have been designed and synthesized based on N-heterocyclic polycarboxylic acids, including pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (Hpydc) and pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (Hpzdc). Altering the concentration of piperazine (pip, ancillary ligand) enables control over the dimensionality of the compound by switching between the 0D [Hpip][Hpip][Pr(pydc)]·4HO (I) and the 1D {[Pr(pydc)(Hpydc)(HO)]·4HO} (II) coordination polymer (CP). Upon replacing Hpydc with Hpzdc, CP II is converted to the 2D CP [Pr(pzdc)(Hpzdc)(HO)] (III) and using the metalloligand [Zn(Hpzdc)(HO)], the 3D heterometallic CP {[PrZn(pzdc)(HO)]·2HO} (IV) is formed.

Three scandium metal-organic frameworks (Sc-MOFs), [Sc(pydc)(Hpydc)(H2O)]·H2O (1), [Sc2(pydc)3(H2O)4]·5H2O (2) and [Sc(pydc)(H2O)(NO3)] (3) with similar Sc2(pydc)2 building unit were prepared by using 2,3-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H2pydc) ligand under hydrothermal conditions. Compound 1 exhibits a ladder-shaped chain with Sc2(pydc)2 units, which further construct a supramolecular characteristic with water molecules via hydrogen bond. Compound 2 features a waved layer made up of pydc(2-) ligands and two types of crystallographically different Sc(III) ions, among which Sc2 and pydc(2-) ligands constructed the Sc2(pydc)2 units.

The synthesis and crystal structure of the compound bis(6-carboxypyridine-2-carboxylato-κ(3)O(2),N,O(6))nickel(II) trihydrate, Ni(Hpydc)(2)·3H(2)O, with a supramolecular network is reported (H(2)pydc is pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid). The compound has been prepared by hydrothermal methods. The crystal structure has been solved by direct methods using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data collected at 293 K and refined by full-matrix least-squares procedures to a final R value of 0.
