The corrosion of the metal parts in the primary circuit of pressurized water reactors leads to the release of colloidal particles (NiFe(2)O(4), CoFe(2)O(4), NiO, Ni...) and ionic species (Co, Ni, Cr...). Particles can interact with ionic species in the primary medium, contributing to their transport and to their deposition onto surfaces outside the neutron flux generating radioactive contamination. Sorption and zetametry experiments at 25 °C were performed on the Ni(2+)/CoFe(2)O(4) and Co(2+)/NiFe(2)O(4) systems in order to determine the behaviour of corrosion products in the fluid of the primary circuit. Sorption appears as surface complexation starting from pH 6 and is followed by precipitation of hydroxide above pH 7.5. Complexation and solubility constants were obtained from the modelling of sorption curves. The two oxide systems present a very similar sorption behaviour, but some differences, due to their different isoelectric points, could be observed on zetametric measurements.

Purpose: The AVeNEW Post-Approval Study (AVeNEW PAS) follows upon results from the AVeNEW IDE clinical trial and was designed to provide additional clinical evidence of safety and effectiveness using the Covera™ Vascular Covered Stent to treat arteriovenous fistula (AVF) stenoses in a real-world hemodialysis patient population.
Materials And Methods: One hundred AVF patients were prospectively enrolled at 11 clinical trial sites in the USA and treated with the covered stent after angioplasty of a clinically significant target stenosis. The primary safety outcome was freedom from any adverse event that suggests the involvement of the AV access circuit evaluated at 30 days.

The neural extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulates in the form of perineuronal nets (PNNs), particularly around fast-spiking GABAergic interneurons in the cortex and hippocampus, but also around synapses and in association with the axon initial segments (AIS) and nodes of Ranvier. Increasing evidence highlights the role of Neurocan (Ncan), a brain-specific component of ECM, in the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Ncan localizes at PNNs, perisynaptically, and at the nodes of Ranvier and the AIS, highlighting its potential role in regulating axonal excitability.

Background: Cytoplasmic inclusions of TDP-43 are the primary pathology in the majority of ALS and FTLD cases. Recent reports in cell and animal models suggest TDP-43 pathology may enhance neuronal excitability, which could contribute to neurodegeneration via excitotoxicity. Dox-regulatable rNLS8 mice express human TDP-43 with mutations in the nuclear localization signal (hTDP-43NLSm) to promote cytoplasmic accumulation.

Background: Women with a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), including chronic hypertension, gestational hypertension, and preeclampsia have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Current research suggests that general practitioners are unaware of women's HDP history, and although ideally placed to follow-up with these women, there is limited understanding of current CVD prevention practices in women after HDP. Additionally, preeclampsia confers a higher CVD risk compared to other types of HDP, and Australian research suggests that lower socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with a higher incidence of both HDP and CVD.

Background: Stiff Person Spectrum Disorders (SPSD) are classically defined by the presence of muscle stiffness, spasms and hyperactivity of the central nervous system. There is a notable correlation between neurophysiological features and the clinical hallmark of SPSD, which has greatly encouraged the use of these techniques for diagnostic purposes. Besides, electrophysiological techniques allow for a functional evaluation of the 'hyperactivity of the CNS', thus offering the opportunity to clarify the mechanisms underlying this disorder.
