Two length variants of 5S rDNA repeated units were detected in the genome of East European butterfly Melitaea trivia. Both repeat variants contain the 5S rRNA coding region of the same length of 120 bp, but possess the intergenic spacer region (IGS) of different size, 78 and 125 bp, respectively. The level of sequence similarity between the two 5S rDNA variants amounts to 43.9-45.5% in the IGS, whereas the coding region appears to be more conservative. In the IGS, microsatellite sequence motives were found; amplification of these motives could be involved in the evolution of the 5S rDNA.

The mosquito Aedes aegypti is an emerging model insect for invertebrate neurobiology. We detail the application of a dual transgenesis marker system that reports the nature of transgene integration with circular donor template for CRISPR-Cas9-mediated homology-directed repair at target mosquito chemoreceptor genes. Employing this approach, we demonstrate the establishment of cell-type-specific T2A-QF2 driver lines for the A.

(1) Background: In recent years, the increasing emergence of multidrug-resistant pathogens in pig farms has begun to pose a severe threat to animal welfare and, by extension, public health. In this study, we aimed to explore the biological characteristics and genomic features of bacteriophages that are capable of lysing porcine multidrug-resistant , which was isolated from sewage. In doing so, we provided a reference for phage therapies that can be used to treat multidrug-resistant strains.

Canine parvovirus (CPV-2) is a highly contagious virus in canines, and it is mostly spread by touching infected feces. Dogs of all ages can catch it, but puppies are more likely to suffer from it. Severe signs include vomiting, diarrhea with blood, feeling tired, and not drinking enough water.

The oncogenic and tumor suppressor roles of lnc-MAPKAPK5-AS1 in multiple cancers suggest its complexity in modulating cancer progression. The expression and promoter methylation level of lnc-MAPKAPK5-AS1 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was investigated through data mining from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus and its significance in prognosis and immunity was explored. lnc-MAPKAPK5-AS1 was co-expressed with its protein-coding gene MAPKAPK5 in HCC and exhibited upregulation in HCC tissues as a result of hypomethylation of its promoter region.

Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) may be involved in dysfunction of pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAEC) and, thus, in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) pathobiology. We screened the RNA expression profile of commercial human PAEC (hPAEC) exposed to increased hydrostatic pressure, and found that the lncRNA Down syndrome critical region 9 (DSCR9) was the most regulated transcript (log2FC 1.89 vs control).
