The motion of a large, neutrally buoyant, particle freely advected by a turbulent flow is determined experimentally. We demonstrate that both the translational and angular accelerations exhibit very wide probability distributions, a manifestation of intermittency. The orientation of the angular velocity with respect to the trajectory, as well as the translational acceleration conditioned on the spinning velocity, provides evidence of a lift force acting on the particle.

Background: Pseudoaneurysm after coarctation of the aorta (CoA) repair is a rare but severe complication. Contributing factors may include infection, hypertension, aortic wall weakness, and turbulent blood flow at the repair site.
Case Presentation: A 35-year-old male presented with recurrent episodes of epistaxis and dizziness was admitted to the emergency department.

Confined space fires could easily cause serious casualties and property damage, and foam is an effective means of preventing confined space fires. The existing foam generator does not have both momentum and foam expansion rate (FER) and is poorly suited to confined spaces. In order to develop a foam generator suitable for confined space fire protection, an in-depth analysis of the physical foaming characteristics of self-suction foam is required, and the structure of the foam generator is optimized accordingly.

The energy cascade, i.e. the transfer of kinetic energy from large-scale to small-scale flow motions, has been the cornerstone of turbulence theories and models since the 1940s.

Anthropogenic emissions of non-CO greenhouse gases, such as low-concentration coal mine methane (cCH < 30 vol%), have a significant impact on global warming. The main component of coal mine methane is methane (CH), which is both a greenhouse gas and a high-quality clean energy gas. To study the combustion and heat transfer reactions of low-concentration coal mine methane in a catalytic oxidation device, a numerical simulation approach was employed to establish a model of the catalytic oxidation device that includes periodic boundary conditions, methane combustion mechanisms, and turbulent-laminar flow characteristics.

Oil spill disasters lead to widespread and long-lasting social, economical, environmental and ecological impacts. Technical challenges remain for conventional static adsorption due to hydrodynamic instability under complex water-flow conditions, which results in low oil-capture efficiency, time delay and oil escape. To address this issue, we design a vortex-anchored filter inspired by the anatomy of deep-sea glass sponges (E.
