[Image: see text] We report crystallographic data for a set of homologous γ-peptides that contain a Boc-protected residue derived from the flexible gabapentin monomer at the N-terminus and cyclically constrained γ-residues at all other positions. The crystallized γ-peptides range in length from 3 to 7 residues. Previously only one atomic-resolution structure had been available for a short γ-peptide 14-helix. The new data provided here allow derivation of characteristic parameters for the γ-peptide 14-helix, and establish guidelines for characterizing 14-helical folding in solution via 2D NMR. In addition, the results suggest that the substitution pattern of a γ-residue has a profound effect on the propensity for 14-helical folding.

Conformational search and density functional theory calculations were performed to explore the preferences of helical structures for chiro-specific oligo-γ-peptides of 2-(aminomethyl)cyclopentanecarboxylic acid (γAmc) with a cyclopentyl constraint on the C-C bond in solution. The dimer and tetramer of γAmc (1) with homochiral (1S, 2S) configurations exhibited a strong preference for the 9-membered helix foldamer in solution, except for the tetramer in water. However, the oligomers of γAmc (1) longer than tetramer preferentially adopted a right-handed (P)-2.

We describe the synthesis of trihydroxylated cyclohexane β-amino acids from (-)-shikimic acid, in their and configuration, and the incorporation of the isomer into a -2-aminocyclohexanecarboxylic acid peptide chain. Subsequently, the hydroxyl groups were partially or totally deprotected. The structural study of the new peptides by FTIR, CD, solution NMR and DFT calculations revealed that they all fold into a 14-helix secondary structure, similarly to the homooligomer of -2-aminocyclohexanecarboxylic acid.

The plasticizer is crucial in the plant-based soft capsule. However, meeting the quality requirements of these capsules with a single plasticizer is challenging. To address this issue, this study first investigated the impact of a plasticizer mixture containing sorbitol and glycerol in varying mass ratios and the performance of the pullulan soft film and capsule.

The sun is the most sustainable source of photons on the earth but is rarely used in photochemical transformations due its relatively low and variable intensity, broad wavelength range, and lack of focus. Luminescent solar concentrator-based photomicroreactors (LSC-PMs) can be an answer to all these issues, but widespread adoption is plagued by challenges associated with their complicated manufacturing. Herein, we developed a new strategy to accelerate and ease the production of LSC-PMs by depositing a thin luminescent film on commercially and widely available silicon-based microreactors.

Sunlight strikes our planet every day with more energy than we consume in an entire year. Therefore, many researchers have explored ways to efficiently harvest and use sunlight energy for the activation of organic molecules. However, implementation of this energy source in the large-scale production of fine chemicals has been mostly neglected.
