Enzymes, exosecreted by the digestive glands plays not only a role of the hydrolases, but also an informational and modulating role in the urgent adaptation of the enzyme secretion to the structure and properties of the luminal content of the gastrointestinal tract. Endosecreted enzymes in the blood not only inform about enzymatic condition of the hydrolase-producing glands and duct system, but also plays an informational and modulating role by the inhibition of the secretion of the same enzymes, and by the stimulation of the secretion of the heteronymic enzyme, defines a parity of their secretion and recretion, integrates enzyme secretion of the pancreas and gastric glands.

The bioaccumulation and toxic effects of synthetic phenolic antioxidants (SPAs) in aquatic ecosystems are of growing concern due to their widespread use and potential environmental persistence. This study investigated the detoxification and toxicological impacts of 2,6-ditert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT), a representative SPAs, on clams Ruditapes philippinarum using environmentally relevant exposure concentrations. BHT bioaccumulation was observed in both gills and digestive glands, with higher levels in the latter.

Introduction And Objective: Urodynamic study (UDS) is required to diagnose bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) during evaluation of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) but is seldom performed due to cost and invasiveness. Therefore, anatomic and clinical parameters to predict BOO have been proposed, including the prostate transition zone index (TZI) which is the ratio of prostate transition zone volume (TZV) to whole gland volume (WGV). Historically computed with ellipsoid volume estimation of prostate WGV and TZV from transrectal ultrasound measurements, controversy exists regarding the utility of TZI to predict likelihood of BOO on UDS and clinical outcomes following BPH surgery.
