The bacterial community structure in soil of a tropical rainforest in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, where forest fires occurred in 1997-1998, was analysed by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) with soil samples collected from the area in 2001 and 2002. The study sites were composed of a control forest area without fire damage, a lightly-burned forest area, and a heavily-burned forest area. DGGE band patterns showed that there were many common bacterial taxa across the areas although the vegetation is not the same. In addition, it was indicated that a change of vegetation in burned areas brought the change in bacterial community structure during 2001-2002. It was also indicated that, depending on a perspective, community structure of soil bacteria in post-fire non-climax forest several years after fire can be more heterogeneous compared with that in unburned climax forest. The dominant soil bacteria in the field of the present study were Acidobacteria, Actinobaceria, and Alphaproteobacteria based on the DNA sequences of DGGE bands, although they were not dominant among the culturable bacteria from the same soil samples.

Efforts to effect racial health disparity (RHD) policy change are urgent, necessary, and subject to a key barrier: defensiveness among White privileged audiences. Within the literature to date, such defensiveness is under-investigated, and when examined, is typically conceived of as an individual cognitive outcome-a message effect-rather than a communication interaction. Yet policy change advocacy efforts, ranging from community organizing to change campaigns, necessitate communication interactions between advocates and privileged policy change audiences, such as neighborhood groups or policymakers themselves.

Background: Extreme heat exposure is an increasing public health concern, particularly in the context of climate change. Limited research has explored its impact on children's cognitive outcomes. This study investigates the association between extreme heat exposure and cognitive function in 9-10-year-old children, using data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study.

X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) data of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) seem to be simple and apparently do not contain a lot of structural information, as these patterns usually do not show more than 3-5 distinguishable Bragg peaks. As COFs are inherently complex materials exhibiting a variety of disorder phenomena like stacking faults, layer curving, or disordered solvent molecules populating the pores, the interpretation of XRPD patterns is far from being trivial. Here we emphasize the critical need for precision and caution in XRPD data acquisition, refinement, and interpretation to avoid common pitfalls and overinterpretations in data analysis.

The Canary Current Large Marine Ecosystem (CCLME), extending from Cape Spartel in Morocco to Guinea-Bissau, supports high primary and fisheries productivity driven by permanent or seasonal upwelling activity. During the current study, mesozooplankton and hydrographic sampling were conducted across the CCLME in the spring/summer of 2017 and the autumn/winter of 2019. The total mesozooplankton abundance and dry weight were found to be higher in 2017, partly due to the summer reproduction cycle of diplostracans.

Biodiversity assessment promotes information on the state of an ecosystem. Zooplankton, as a sentinel group at the basis of aquatic food webs, are, thus, an important component to monitor for ecosystem conservation and management. For the first time, we characterized biodiversity of coastal zooplankton along the shallow Northern shoreline of the lower St.
