Background: The weight regain after successful weight loss is a common challenge. This study aimed to assess the long-term effectiveness of a web-based health behaviour change support system (HBCSS) utilizing persuasive systems design (PSD) and methods of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). We have previously demonstrated the two-year effectiveness of the HBCSS.

Dietary prebiotics pectin and resistant starch type-4 (RS-4) promote satiety and alter gut microbiota; however, the underlying neurohormonal mechanisms of satiety remain poorly understood. We determined the effects of pectin, RS-4, and their combination on energy balance and gut microbiota composition, and assessed whether the gut hormones peptide YY (PYY) and cholecystokinin (CCK) play a role in fiber-induced satiety. High-fat diet -induced obese male rats (n = 7-8/group) were fed either control, pectin, RS-4, or a combination of pectin and RS-4 diet.

Excessive intake of a high fat diet (HFD) leads to accumulation of fat and obesity. Ergosterol (ERG) is a characteristic sterol of fungi with various bioactive functions; however, there are few studies on the ERG function of ameliorating obesity and following cognitive impairment. It was previously found that Zhashui (AA) is rich in ERG; therefore it was selected to enrich ERG through the intervention of exogenous inducers of rice bran oil (RBO), methyl jasmonate (Me JA) and salicylic acid (SA).

Cardiometabolic risk may differ based on a stress-induced alpha(α)-adrenergic response versus a predominant beta(β)-adrenergic response. Whether these responses might serve as significant markers of distinct cardiometabolic risk profiles based on hemodynamic reactivity remain unknown. We (1) characterized predominant α-and β-adrenergic hemodynamic response patterns to acute mental stress; and (2) determined the cardiometabolic risk profile within predominant α-or β-adrenergic responders, irrespective of age, sex, or ethnicity.
