In this work, we apply photodetachment photoelectron spectroscopy (PD-PES) on radical anions to access the lowest excited electronic states of neutral α-oligothiophenes nT (n = 2-6, where n denotes the number of thiophene rings) in the gas phase. Besides electron affinities, the spectra provide the energies of the T(1) and T(2) states which are otherwise difficult to investigate in neutral molecules due to spin selection rules. The assignment of the spectra is assisted by quantum chemical calculations using a combined density functional theory and multi-reference configuration interaction approach. For all α-oligothiophenes investigated in this work, the T(2) state is situated below S(1). In the gas phase, the S(1) state energies lie higher than in non-polar solution (0.2 to 0.4 eV). The geometry optimizations show that the S(0) state and especially the excited states gain planarity with increasing chain length. A non-planar structure or out-of-plane vibrational activity is needed to allow an efficient intersystem crossing (ISC) dynamics from S(1) to T(2), followed by internal conversion to T(1). Our theoretical calculations predict that in 6T a doubly excited state becomes nearly isoenergetic to S(1). This state is not observed by PD-PES, which is explained by the analysis of the calculated contributing electron configurations.

The effect of growth temperature and subsequent annealing on the epitaxy of both single- and few-layer TaSe on Se-terminated GaP(111) substrates is investigated. The selective growth of the 1T and 1H phases is shown up to 1 ML according to X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies. The 1H monolayer, favored at low temperatures, exhibits a very homogeneous coverage after annealing, while the 1T ML, grown at high temperatures, is characterized by a better in-plane orientation.

Next-generation real-time gas sensors are crucial for detecting multiple gases simultaneously with high sensitivity and selectivity. In this study, ternary metal sulfide (PbSnS)-incorporated metal oxide (SnO) heterostructures were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method. Characterizations such as X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the successful formation of PbSnS/SnO heterostructures.

In the current investigation, the efficiency inhibition of two newly synthesized bi-pyrazole derivatives, namely 2,3-bis[(bis((1 H-pyrazol-1-yl) methyl) amino)] pyridine (Tetra-Pz-Ortho) and 1,4-bis[(bis((1 H-pyrazol-1-yl) methyl) amino)] benzene (Tetra-Pz-Para) for corrosion of carbon steel (C&S) in 1 M HCl medium was evaluated. A Comparative study of inhibitor effect of Tetra-Pz-Ortho and Tetra-Pz-Para was conducted first using weight loss method and EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) and PDP (Potentiodynamic Polarisation) techniques. Tetra-Pz-Ortho and Tetra-Pz-Para had a maximum inhibition efficacy of 97.

The adoption of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology is increasingly prevalent, driven by the global initiative to conserve energy and reduce emissions. Nevertheless, CCUS has the potential to induce corrosion in equipment, particularly in high-pressure environments containing carbon dioxide (CO). Therefore, anti-corrosion protection is necessary for the metal utilized for CO production and storage equipment.

Immobilizing the target protein on a solid surface with controlled orientation, high specificity, and maintained activity is a proven strategy to enhance the stability of the protein. In this study, we employed an ultra-high affinity protein pair consisting of a mutant of colicin E7 Dnase and its corresponding inhibitor, immunity protein 7(Im7), to develop an immobilized α-adrenoceptor (α-AR) column. Briefly, we expressed α-AR fused with CL7 as a tag at its C-terminus in Escherichia coli cells.
