Monotonously stratified porous medium, where the layered medium changes its hydraulic conductivity with depth, is present in various systems like tilled soil and peat formation. In this study, the flow pattern within a monotonously stratified porous medium is explored by deriving a non-dimensional number, Fhp, from the macroscopic Darcian-based flow equation. The derived Fhp theoretically classifies the flow equation to be hyperbolic or parabolic, according to the hydraulic head gradient length scale, and the hydraulic conductivity slope and mean.

The establishment of the harmful pathogen in different agroecosystems may strongly depend on the ability of the soils to suppress its development and survival. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different soil tillage systems (i.e.

Our objectives were to screen 14 diverse triticale cultivars for agronomic and nutritive characteristics with specific emphasis on identifying normal, as well as deviant, responses to the calendar date and plant maturity for forages seeded in December and harvested from late February throughout May at Maricopa, AZ. Fourteen cultivars were established in a randomized complete block design with each cultivar represented within each of three field blocks.

Background: Maternal smoking during pregnancy is an established risk factor for low infant birth weight, but evidence on critical exposure windows and timing of fetal growth restriction is limited. Here we investigate the associations of maternal quitting, reducing, and continuing smoking during pregnancy with longitudinal fetal growth by triangulating evidence from 3 analytical approaches to strengthen causal inference.
Methods And Findings: We analysed data from 8,621 European liveborn singletons in 2 population-based pregnancy cohorts (the Generation R Study, the Netherlands 2002-2006 [n = 4,682]) and the Born in Bradford study, United Kingdom 2007-2010 [n = 3,939]) with fetal ultrasound and birth anthropometric measures, parental smoking during pregnancy, and maternal genetic data.
