We report evidence that Amblyomma maculatum tick populations are well established in southeastern Virginia. This study evaluates contamination and potential ecological risk in Ilha Grande Bay (BIG) in southeastern Brazil. To achieve these objectives, we analyzed physicochemical, sediment textural, and geochemical data from 134 stations distributed throughout the bay. The results reveal significant environmental degradation in the coastal areas of Paraty, Saco do Mamanguá, Angra dos Reis City, and Abraão Cove (at Ilha Grande island).

Many events also are short-lived and go undocumented, making it difficult to draw on lessons learned from past investigations.

In this case report, we discuss the critical interdependence of structure and function in demonstrating systolic anterior motion (SAM) of the mitral valve after repeat heart transplantation, where residual apical tissue of the explanted heart remained in place. The resulting conformational changes led to anterior displacement of the mitral valve and persistent SAM.
