The most significant facts in the development of Chilean cardiology since 1930 are reviewed. The preeminence of great clinicians in the thirties was followed by the creation of Departments of Cardiology in University Hospitals. The emergence of powerful diagnostic tools and cardiac surgery allowed an accelerated development of this specialty in our country. Some of the problems faced by physicians and public in general as a consequence of the increasing use of sophisticated technology are discussed.

From the second half of the nineteenth-century treatment of "imbecile" children in Britain underwent significant change. Examining the period from 1870 to 1920 when imbecility became a discrete category, and a matter of concern in policy and practice, this paper focuses on conceptualizations around fright, idleness, morality, and parental mental state as behavioral, emotional, and psychological causes and attributions of "imbecility" in children. I view this in light of the Victorian emotional culture of "care and control," which was driven by a shift in cost-cutting and fear of the impact of "imbecile children" on society, justifying exclusions, defining boundaries, and driving change.

Background And Objective: Lung cancer recurrence after complete surgical resection of early-stage T1-T2N0 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains a problem due to unrecognized micrometastatic disease. The objective of this review is to present and summarize data from major randomized trials in which have studied the survival benefit of adjuvant therapy for early-stage NSCLC.
Methods: Information used to write this paper was collected from PubMed and the National Clinical Trial registry from the National Library of Medicine.

Parents of children with Down syndrome have historically reported poor experiences receiving a prenatal diagnosis. In a 2003 survey, mothers reported that their physicians pitied them, emphasized negative aspects of Down syndrome, and encouraged them to terminate the pregnancy. Background: Although the Chronic Care Model (CCM) provides the essential structural components of practice organisation to deliver high-quality type 2 diabetes (T2D) care, little is known about which of its elements are most important, and the extent to which it may reduce social inequities in the quality of T2D care. This study aims to assess the association between the implementation of CCM's structural elements and the quality of T2D care processes and outcomes in Flanders (Belgium), paying specific attention to differences by patients' socioeconomic vulnerability.
Methods: We developed a longitudinal database combining information on primary care practices' CCM implementation, with individual-level health insurance and medical lab data.
