In the title compound, C(18)H(16)N(2)O(5)S, the coumarin ring system is nearly planar, with a maximum out-of-plane deviation of 0.078 (1) Å (r.m.s. deviation = 0.046 Å). The dihedral angle between the coumarin ring system and the toluene ring (r.m.s. deviation = 0.004 Å) is 2.77 (1)°. The crystal packing is stabilized by C-H⋯O and N-H⋯O inter-molecular hydrogen bonds generating C(8), C(9) and C(11) chains and R(2) (2)(14), R(2) (2)(23) and R(4) (3)(13) ring graph sets.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a heterogeneous endocrine disorder characterized by ovarian cysts, anovulation, endocrine variations, which includes oligo-amenorrhea along with associated subfertility and hyperandrogenism manifested as acne, hirsutism, and male-pattern alopecia. Coumarins are fused benzene and pyrone ring systems that exhibit a wide spectrum of bioactivities. This study aimed to investigate the effects of 3-acetyl coumarin (3-AC) on polycystic ovarian syndrome in female rats.

Aim: Developing new antimicrobial agents in response to the urgent challenge of antimicrobial resistance.

Methods: Synthesis of the targeted coumarins, elucidation of their structures using spectroscopic tools, and investigation of their antimicrobial activity.

Results: Coumarin-pyrazole with CF in the 3-position of the pyrazole ring displayed the lowest minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and the minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) with values of 1.

ConspectusSynthetic extracellular matrix (ECM) engineering is a highly interdisciplinary field integrating materials and polymer science and engineering, chemistry, cell biology, and medicine to develop innovative strategies to investigate and control cell-matrix interactions. Cellular microenvironments are complex and highly dynamic, changing in response to injury and disease. To capture some of these critical dynamics , biomaterial matrices have been developed with tailorable properties that can be modulated in the presence of cells.

Article Synopsis
  • * Halogen substitutions at the ortho position (chlorine and bromine) were found to decrease QY significantly, with values dropping from 70% for 7-hydroxycoumarin to 61% for ortho-chloro and 30% for ortho-bromo, indicating increased energy dissipation.
  • * The study suggests that the reductions in QY are influenced by factors beyond the heavy-atom effect, involving spin-orbit coupling effects that affect intersystem crossing and phosphorescence rates
