Background And Objective: Advanced glycosylation end-product receptor (AGER) plays an important role in the development and progression of atherosclerosis. The G82S polymorphism (rs2070600) is located in the ligand-binding V-domain of AGER suggesting a possible influence of this variant on AGER function. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association of the G82S polymorphism with the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Design And Methods: The AGER gene G82S polymorphism was analysed in 270 nondiabetic and 270 type 2 diabetic Chinese Han patients with angiographically proven CAD (luminal stenosis ≥ 50%). The number of diseased vessels and Gensini score were used to determine the severity of CAD. Genotyping for the G82S polymorphism was performed by PCR-RFLP using restriction enzymes AluI.

Results: The frequency of 82S allele was significantly lower in the diabetic CAD patients with multi-vessel disease than in those with single-vessel disease (P = 0·015). When controlled for confounding variables, the 82S allele was associated with decreased risk of multi-vessel disease [P = 0·038, adjusted OR = 0·565 (0·329-0·972)]. The protective effect of the 82S allele against the severity of CAD was not observed in patients with nondiabetic CAD.

Conclusions: AGER 82S allele showed a protective effect on CAD severity in the presence of T2DM in Chinese Han population.

Introduction: Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common severe symptoms of diabetes mellitus. Hyperglycemia can lead to tissue damage and inflammation due to mediators such as receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE). Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the association between the G82S polymorphism of the RAGE gene and diabetic nephropathy in diabetic patients.

Background: Although the implication of receptor of advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) has been reported in coronary artery disease, its roles in coronary artery ectasia (CAE) have remained undetermined. Furthermore, the effect of RAGE polymorfisms were not well-defined in scope of soluble RAGE (sRAGE) levels. Thus, we aimed to investigate the influence of the functional polymorphisms of RAGE -374T > A (rs1800624) and G82S (rs2070600) in CAE development.

Background: In the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the advanced glycation end product receptor (RAGE) has been involved. IBD is classified into Chron's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). The promoter gene of the RAGE gene was discovered to have had unique polymorphisms that increased its transcriptional activity.

Background: The soluble form of receptor for advanced glycation end products (sRAGE) have been implicated in the prevention of numerous pathologic states, and highlights as an attractive therapeutic target. Because diets rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) reduce postprandial oxidative stress and inflammation that is related to better health during aging, we investigated the association between red blood cell (RBC) fatty acids with circulatory AGE biomarkers and further stratified this correlation based on GG and GA + AA genotype.

Methods: A total of 172 healthy participants (median age = 53.

Background/aim: Chemotherapeutic drugs or radiation can cause immunogenic cell death (ICD) and damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) release to activate pattern recognition receptor (PRR) in immune cells. Several PRRs bridge innate immunity and adaptive immunity and are implicated in the anticancer immune response. However, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in PRRs are associated with chemotherapeutic drugs or radiation response in cancer treatment.
