A long-term for possible carcinogenicity was conducted by subcutaneous implantation of 1 cm 2 pieces of polyethylenetherophthalate vascular grafts (PET-VG) to 150 BDF1 mice and 120 Syrian golden hamsters of either sex. A false operation was carried out in the same number of animals of control groups. Implantation was performed in nine-week-old animals. The observation period was 73 weeks for mice and 82 weeks for hamsters. A total of 161 tumors (81 in the experimental group) with 15 localizations were observed in mice and 43 tumors (20 in the experimental group) with 13 localizations--in hamsters. No pathological or statistical evidence of induction of tumors by PET-VG was found. It is concluded that under the conditions of this study PET-VG is not carcinogenic for BDF1 mice and Syrian golden hamsters of either sex.

Despite a long period of application of metal implants, carbon-carbon medical composites are also widely used for bone defect prosthesis in surgery, dentistry, and oncology. Such implants might demonstrate excellent mechanical properties, but their biocompatibility and integration efficiency into the host should be improved. As a method of enhancing, the electrophoretic deposition of fine-dispersed hydroxyapatite (HAp) on porous carbon substrates might be recommended.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to use a mouse model to investigate the blastocyst formation rate in vitrified-warmed embryos derived from vitrified-warmed oocytes.
Methods: Metaphase II oocytes obtained from BDF1 mice were vitrified and warmed, followed by fertilization with epididymal sperm. On day 3, a total of 176 embryos, at either the eight-cell or the morula stage, were vitrified-warmed (representing group 1).

We recently reported that poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with interleukin (IL)-2 and targeted to T cells inhibited the development of lupus-like disease in BDF1 mice by inducing functional T regulatory cells (Tregs). Here we show that the protection from disease and the extended survival of BDF1 mice provided by IL-2-loaded NPs targeted to T cells is not only due to an induction of Tregs but also contributed by an inhibition of T follicular helper (T) cells. These results identify a dual protective activity of IL-2 in the control of lupus autoimmunity, namely the inhibition of effector T cells, in addition to the previously known induction of Tregs.
