The vibration characteristics of a piezoelectric fiber actuator with helical electrodes are studied theoretically and experimentally. Its working principle indicates that the torsional, longitudinal, and tangential deformations of the fiber are coupled. A simplified dynamic model is deduced to investigate the properties of the coupled vibrations and their corresponding equivalent circuits are also provided. Resonant frequencies and mechanical coupling coefficients in free-free boundary condition are calculated. The trends of resonant frequencies as functions of the electrode helical angle and fiber length are discussed and validated in experiments.

Uterine torsion represents a rare condition that may occur during pregnancy or in non-gravid women. This condition is difficult to diagnose, since there are no specific signs besides abdominal pain. Thus, most of the cases are not diagnosed correctly before a surgical procedure and may result in complications and poor outcomes.

Background: Varicocele is an abnormal dilation and torsion of the pampiniform venous plexus in the scrotum due to venous reflux, primarily affecting the left side. It affects 15% of men and is a prevalent contributor to male infertility. Varicocele is a complex disorder influenced by genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors.

Background: The use of patient-specific instruments (PSIs) for osteotomies is becoming more popular in orthopaedic surgery for correcting mechanical axis and posttraumatic deformities. However, the PSI reduction guides have great potential for intraoperative deformation, which adversely affects the accuracy of the procedure.
Purpose: To conduct a finite element analysis (FEA) to analyze different design parameters to improve the intraoperative stability of the reduction guides.
