Anticounterfeiting technologies meet challenges in the Internet of Things era due to the rapidly growing volume of objects, their frequent connection with humans, and the accelerated advance of counterfeiting/cracking techniques. Here, we, inspired by biological fingerprints, present a simple anticounterfeiting system based on perovskite quantum dot (PQD) fingerprint physical unclonable function (FPUF) by cooperatively utilizing the spontaneous-phase separation of polymers and selective in situ synthesis PQDs as an entropy source. The FPUFs offer red, green, and blue full-color fingerprint identifiers and random three-dimensional (3D) morphology, which extends binary to multivalued encoding by tuning the perovskite and polymer components, enabling a high encoding capacity (about 10, far surpassing that of biometric fingerprints).

Strong self-association of chitosan microgels at interface mediated high stabilities in Pickering emulsion.

Int J Biol Macromol

The spontaneous self-organization of naturally-occurring polysaccharide particles into a thick and robust gel network at interface in Pickering emulsion is challenging. Inspired by the phenomenon that chitosan microgels (CSMs) with a certain size could self-associate into a solidified gel phase upon freezing, here we tentatively used CSMs to construct a highly-stable Pickering emulsion. CSMs can form a stable Langmuir's layer at the water/oil interface through the network deformation and re-arrangement of dangling chains, while the subsequent negative polymer coating can avoid the bridging resulting from the cross-association for CSMs on different emulsion droplets upon freezing.

The circRNA Landscape in Recurrent Pregnacy Loss (RPL): A Comparison of Four Reproductive Tissues.

Int J Mol Sci

November 2024

Department of Genetics, Physical Anthropology and Animal Physiology, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Sarriena auzoa, 48940 Leioa, Spain.

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL), also named Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion (RSA), is a common fertility problem that refers to at least two consecutive pregnancy losses and affects 1-2% of couples all over the world. Despite common causes such as genetic abnormalities, uterine anomalies or hormonal and metabolic disorders, there is still a huge challenge in identifying the causes of about 40-60% of RPL patients. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are endogenous ncRNAs with a unique closed-loop and single-stranded structure.

Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have shown great potential for direct X-ray detection, but achieving high sensitivity without external bias remains challenging. Chiral-polar alternating cation intercalation (ACI)-type MHPs, with excellent optoelectronic properties and a robust chirality-induced bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE), offer a promising platform for self-driven X-ray detection. Herein, impressive self-driven X-ray detection performance was achieved by utilizing chiral-polar 2D ACI-type perovskite single crystals of (-PPA)PAPbBr (; -PPA = -1-phenylpropylamine; PA = propylamine).

A Case of Spontaneous Carotid-cavernous Fistula in a Patient with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

NMC Case Rep J

November 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, Division of Clinical Neuroscience, Faculty of Medicine, University of Miyazaki, Kiyotake, Miyazaki, Japan.

Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) is a rare disorder that is characterized by vascular lesions mainly caused by vascular fragility, such as spontaneous carotid-cavernous fistula (sCCF). We experienced a patient who presented with sCCF but suffered postoperative multiple vascular arteriopathy complications caused by undiagnosed vEDS. A 39-year-old woman who had no physical and medical characteristics indicating vEDS was referred to our hospital due to sudden onset of headache and pulsatile tinnitus.
