AI Article Synopsis

  • The study investigates how often photosensitivity occurs in children with various types of generalized idiopathic epilepsy.
  • A total of 68 children aged 3-18 were analyzed, with specific groups based on their epilepsy type, and EEG tests were conducted to evaluate their reactions to different stimuli.
  • Results indicate that photosensitivity is present in 32.35% of the patients, with a higher prevalence in girls of puberty age, particularly affecting those with juvenile absence epilepsy and juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.

Article Abstract

Unlabelled: The aim of this study is to evaluate the frequency of photosensitivity at patients of paediatric age diagnosed with different types of generalized idiophatic epilepsies.

Material And Method: We used a group of 68 children aged 3-18 years diagnosed: 39 patients with childhood absence epilepsy (CAE), 11 with juvenile absence epilepsy (JAE), 10 with epilepsy with grand mal on awakening (EGMA), 8 with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME). EEG was recording without and with stimulation (hyperventilation, intermittent photic stimulation -IPS) after sleep deprivation. For all children with CAE absences and anormal EEG was provoked by hyperventilation and in 12 cases seizures was provoked by IPS.

Results: At 4 patients with JAE, EEG show photosensitivity. 5 children with JME have photosensitivity and for one child opening eyes provoked polyspike-wave discharges without clinical correspondent. The EEG of patients with EGMA showed photosensitivity at 6 children. The photosensitivity is frequently associated with generalized idiophatic epilepsies (32.35%) and it is most often seen at girls (54.54%) of puberty age.

Objectives: Across diagnosis groups, transition of adolescents and young adults from children's hospitals to adult care associates with decreased treatment adherence and suboptimal treatment results. Our aim was to compare the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and disease activity of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients after the transfer of care to the adult clinic and adult patients in the same outpatient clinic.

Methods: All consecutive JIA patients aged 16 to 20 years who visited the transition clinic between September 2016 and August 2017 and all consecutive adult onset arthritis patients between December 2016 and August 2017 in the rheumatology outpatient clinic of Helsinki University Hospital were evaluated.

Introduction: Intramural hematomas of the gastrointestinal tract are uncommom, usually located in the esophagus or duodenum, with idiophatic or secondary causes. We present a very rare case of gastric intramural hematoma caused by an unpublished etiology, with literature review.

Case Presentation: An elderly woman suffered acute thoracic aorta dissection followed by gastric intramural hematoma, diagnosed through endoscopy and computed tomography angiography.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a differentiated disease within the idiophatic interstitial pneumonias. IPF is progressive and fibrosing and is limited to the lungs. This entity generally affects persons older than 50 years old and is associated with the radiological and/or histological pattern of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP).

Article Synopsis
  • * The majority of CU cases are classified as chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU), where the exact causes remain unknown for 70-95% of patients, though various factors like drugs and food are suspected triggers.
  • * This study aims to investigate the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection in CIU patients, assess the severity of gastritis among them, and determine if eradicating Hp can alleviate CIU symptoms and clarify its role in the condition's pathogenesis
