[Is peritoneal endometriosis painful?].

Rev Fr Gynecol Obstet

Service de Gynécologie-Obstétrique, Centre Hospitalier, Vitré.

Published: November 1990

Using a study of 306 coelioscopies as a basis, the authors try to define the relationship existing between the observation of lesions of peritoneal endometriosis and the symptom of pain. Certain observations raise the doubt of there being a cause/effect relationship (i.e. high incidence of peritoneal endometriosis in women without symptoms of pain, only 40% of cases of peritoneal endometriosis are associated with pain, very high incidence of associated lesions or psychiatric history in women with painful peritoneal endometriosis). While unable to rule out the responsibility of lesions of peritoneal endometriosis in the genesis of pelvic pain, they nevertheless believe that such an observation should lead the physician to be critical (is the pain psychogenic?) and thorough (investigation of genital or extra-genital associated lesions) before any conclusion is drawn. In certain cases, the reply will be given by the therapeutic test.

Dietary factors have recently been recognized as potentially influential in the pathogenesis of endometriosis (EM), yet studies on the causal relationship between dietary preferences and EM are limited. The present study aimed to explore the causal relationships between 187 dietary preferences and EM using Mendelian randomization (MR) methods. This study utilised genome-wide association study data from over 500,000 European participants for dietary preferences and 64,658 EM patients from Finland.

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease that affects 1 in 10 reproductive-aged women. Most studies investigate established disease; however, the initiation and early events in endometriotic lesion development remain poorly understood. Our study used neutrophils from human menstrual effluent from subjects with and without endometriosis for immunophenotyping, and a mouse model of endometriosis and a mouse endometriosis cell line to determine the role of neutrophils in the initiating events of endometriosis, including attachment and survival of minced endometrial pieces.

Ruptured Endometrioma Associated With Acute Appendicitis: A Case Report.

Cureus

December 2024

Department of Radiology, Souss Massa University Hospital Center, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ibn Zohr University, Agadir, MAR.

Endometrioma is a localized form of endometriosis, usually found within the ovaries bilaterally, containing degenerated blood products resulting from bleeding of ectopic endometriotic tissue at different ages. Rupture of the endometrioma is a rare complication that may result in hemoperitoneum and peritonitis and thus presents similarly to other more common abdominal emergencies, and the concomitant presence of a ruptured endometrioma and another abdominal emergency, although exceptional, remains possible. Ultrasonography and sectional imaging can be used to assess a diagnosis that is often confirmed postoperatively.

Modulation of Long Non-coding RNA FAS-AS1/FAS/Caspase3 Axis in Endometriosis: A Cross-sectional Study.

J Hum Reprod Sci

December 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Reproductive Health Research Centre, Alzahra Hospital, School of Medicine, Guilan University of Medical Sciences, Rasht, Iran.

Background: An increasing number of studies have demonstrated that excessive proliferation and apoptosis play a pivotal role in the development of endometriosis.

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the expression of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) FAS-AS1, FAS, soluble Fas (sFas) and caspase-3 in patients with different stages of endometriosis.

Setting And Design: The design of the study was a cross-sectional study.
