Unlabelled: The goal of the study was to estimate specific features of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) manifestations in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM 2) according to the kind of hypoglycaemic therapy.

Material And Methods: The total of 159 patients with DM 2 were studied by means of gastro-esophageal 24-hours pH-recordings for recognition of GERD. All diabetic patients with GERD were divided into two groups: who were on insulin therapy and who were not. Esophageal endoscopy was made to all the patients with studies of Helicobacter pylori infecting.

Results: The study showed higher prevalence of GERD in insulin-dependent patients. GERD manifestations in this group were found to be more expressed as well as endoscopic findings more often included erosive esophagitis or esophageal ulcers. H. pylori infecting was found also to be more often seen in insulin-dependent patients than in those who took oral hypoglycemic agents.
