A thin, 63-year-old man was receiving low-dose macrolide therapy for a diagnosis of chronic lower respiratory tract infection, but frequent exacerbations due to Streptococcus pneumoniae were observed. High-resolution computed tomography (CT) of the chest showed bronchiectasis and small centrilobular nodules in the right lower lobe. He had previously had several episodes of exacerbation of chronic lower respiratory tract infection, for which he had received antibiotic treatments (oral fluoroquinolones or intravenous cephems). However, he continued to experience recurrent exacerbations, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was also isolated from his sputum. To improve his general condition, Hochuekkito, a herbal medicine, was initiated. His body weight and serum albumin level gradually increased, and after 6 months of administration, neither S. pneumoniae nor P. aeruginosa were isolated from his

Background: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of the sacroiliac joints and spine. Cuproptosis is a newly recognized copper-induced cell death mechanism. Our study explored the novel role of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in AS, focusing on immune cell infiltration and molecular clustering.

Introduction: Macrophages exhibit marked phenotypic heterogeneity within and across disease states, with lipid metabolic reprogramming contributing to macrophage activation and heterogeneity. Chronic inflammation has been observed in human benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) tissues, however macrophage activation states and their contributions to this hyperplastic disease have not been defined. We postulated that a shift in macrophage phenotypes with increasing prostate size could involve metabolic alterations resulting in prostatic epithelial or stromal hyperplasia.

Background: Ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption has been linked with higher risk of mortality. This multi-centre study investigated associations between food intake by degree of processing, using the Nova classification, and all-cause and cause-specific mortality.

Methods: This study analyzed data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition.

Unlabelled: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a chronic gastrointestinal disorder, often emerges during childhood and poses significant challenges due to its adverse effects on growth, development, and psychosocial well-being. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of diverse diseases. However, the specific biological role and mechanisms of circRNA OMA1 in children with IBD remain largely unexplored.

Child Rehabilitation Department, Hubei NO.3 People's Hospital of Jianghan University, No. 26 Zhongshan Avenue, Qiaokou District, Wuhan, 430033 China.

Unlabelled: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, progressive, immune-mediated, gastrointestinal inflammatory disease with increasing occurrences in children. Collagen triple helix repeat containing 1 (CTHRC1), a migration-promoting protein, acts as a tumor-promoting factor in malignant tumors. However, functions and mechanisms of CTHRC1 in children with IBD remain unclear.
