Acromegaly is usually caused by a growth hormone (GH)-secreting pituitary adenoma. In rare cases, however, it is caused by the ectopic production of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). We report a case of acromegaly due to ectopic production of GHRH from a bronchial carcinoid in a 42-year-old female. The carcinoid tumor was successfully treated with bilobectomy.

Pasireotide is an effective treatment for both Cushing's disease (CD) and acromegaly due to its ability to suppress adrenocorticotropic hormone and growth hormone, and to normalize insulin-like growth factor-1 levels, resulting in tumor shrinkage. However, it may also cause hyperglycemia as a side effect in some patients. The aim of this study was to review previous recommendations regarding the management of pasireotide-induced hyperglycemia in patients with CD and acromegaly and to propose efficient monitoring and treatment algorithms based on recent evidence and current guidelines for type 2 diabetes treatment.

Introduction: Acromegaly is associated with increased vertebral fracture (VF) risk regardless of bone mineral density (BMD). However, the vertebral trabecular compartment is still low; a possible contributor to this may be impaired glucose metabolism (GM) which frequently complicates acromegaly. Additionally, soft tissue thickness may confound bone imaging in acromegaly patients.

Bioinformatic materials science integrates medical science, materials science, informatics, and other disciplines, aiming to maintain the balance of tissues and organs in the human body. This paper explores the relationship between structural information and the structures synthesized through regulated gene expression. Specifically, it describes the transformation of information into substances via biological structural systems, using mathematical formulas to develop bioinformatic materials.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused unprecedented disruptions in the lives of people, inducing a change in social behavior because of quarantine and physical distancing measures for health safety. It greatly affected not only the general population but also the healthcare system, forcing healthcare providers and consumers to adjust from the traditional mode of in-person consultation to telemedicine to enable safe and prompt delivery of adequate and efficient patient care. A 35-year-old female was diagnosed with acromegaly secondary to pituitary macroadenoma, presenting as a 10-year history of weight gain, amenorrhea, hand and feet enlargement, coarse facial features, and bilateral vision loss.
