Nearly quantum-defect-limited laser operation of a resonantly pumped Er(3+):YVO₄ at 1593.5 nm is demonstrated. Maximum slope efficiency of ~85% and true CW power of ~13 W at 1593.5 nm were achieved with a beam propagation factor of M₂ ~ 1.05. This slope efficiency is, to the best of our knowledge, the highest efficiency ever reported for a crystalline Er-doped laser.

The experimental analysis of pure spin currents at interfaces is one major goal in the field of magnonics and spintronics. Complementary to the established Spin-Hall effect using the spin-to-charge conversion in heavy metals for information processing, we present a novel approach based on spin pumping detection by an interfacial, resonantly excited molecular paramagnet adsorbed to the surface of the spin current generating magnet. Here, we show that the sensitivity of this electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) detector can be enhanced by orders of magnitude through intramolecular transfer of spin polarization at room temperature.

The functional properties of organic semiconductors are defined by the interplay between optically bright and dark states. Organic devices require rapid conversion between these bright and dark manifolds for maximum efficiency, and one way to achieve this is through multiexciton generation (S→TT). The dark state TT is typically generated from bright S after optical excitation; however, the mechanistic details are hotly debated.

Chirality-Dependent Dynamic Evolution for Trions in Monolayer WS.

Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides exhibit valley-dependent excitonic characters with a large binding energy, acting as the building block for future optoelectronic functionalities. Herein, combined with pump-probe ultrafast transient transmission spectroscopy and theoretical simulations, we reveal the chirality-dependent trion dynamics in h-BN encapsulated monolayer tungsten disulfide. By resonantly pumping trions in a single valley and monitoring their temporal evolution, we identify the temperature-dependent competition between two relaxation channels driven by chirality-dependent scattering processes.

Most transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) heterostructures (HSs) exhibit a type II band alignment, leading to a charge transfer process accompanied by the transfer of spin-valley polarization and spontaneous formation of interlayer excitons. This unique band structure facilitates achieving a longer exciton lifetime and extended spin-valley polarization lifetime. However, the mechanism of charge transfer in type II TMD HSs is not fully comprehended.
