An antibody raised against the chick calcium-binding protein calbindin D28K was used in immunohistochemical studies of normal post mortem human brain and the brains of individuals with Huntington's disease. Calbindin D28K immunoreactivity in the caudate nucleus and putamen coincided with the distribution of areas of acetylcholinesterase staining termed the matrix. In the matrix, calbindin D28K immunoreactivity was present in medium-sized neurons, the major neuronal population, however a further minor population of more strongly stained large neurons was detected. In Huntington's disease there was a dramatic loss of the majority of matrix calbindin D28K immunoreactive neurons and a parallel loss of calbindin D28K immunoreactivity from the substantia nigra. In contrast to the medium-sized calbindin D28K immunoreactive neurons which degenerate in Huntington's disease, the larger immunoreactive neurons were relatively preserved.

Niemann Pick type C1 (NPC1) is a rare, fatal disorder characterized by endosomal lipid accumulation that leads to damage of both peripheral organs and central nervous system (cerebellum and hippocampus are especially affected). Currently, miglustat is the only approved drug for NPC1, thus the identification of new treatments is mandatory. Improving eggshell quality in poultry is a key breeding goal, and identifying genetic markers that regulate eggshell calcification is essential for accelerating genetic advancements. This study focused on identifying the keys genes and molecular mechanisms that regulate eggshell calcification in the chicken uterus. The results showed that rapid eggshell mineralization began approximately 4 h after the egg enters the uterus, corresponding with observed morphological and histological changes in the uterine tissue.

We previously found that administration of a vasopressin (AVP) V1a receptor (V1aR) antagonist into the lateral septum (LS) increased social play behavior in male juvenile rats and decreased it in females. Experimental animal studies of hypoxic-ischemic injury of the hippocampus of pigs are limited due to the unprecise definition of hippocampal subfields, cornu ammonis 1 to 4, compared to humans. Given that the pig model closely mirrors human physiology and serves as an important model for critical care research, a more precise description is necessary to draw valid conclusions applicable to human diseases. In our study, we were able to precisely define the CA2 and its adjacent regions in a domestic pig model by arginine vasopressin receptor 1B (AVPR1B) and calbindin-D28K like (CaBP-Li) expression patterns.
