Published: April 2011

Background: In Germany manual medicine (MM) is widely used by physicians. The purpose of this study was to give a first description of relevant health service research aspects of MM.

Methods: A structured questionnaire was placed online between April 2009 and March 2010 after pilot testing. Cooperating MM schools invited their members to take part in the study through different media.

Results: A total of 60 female and 241 male physicians participated in this survey. The most common indication for MM is the ileosacral joint syndrome, 73% stated that from their experience a single therapy does change symptoms and 47% stated that there are average to severe unspecific effects involved in MM therapy. Factors most influencing current MM treatment are time pressure and own wellbeing. There were no differences between the schools or specialties with respect to experienced effects of MM and frequency of therapy.

Conclusion: Future study research can be planned to cover all schools of MM.

Various studies have shown that individuals with bullous pemphigoid (BP) are more likely to develop venous thromboembolism (VTE). However, it is important to acknowledge that these studies primarily focused on individuals in Western nations, which restricts their generalization to a wider demographic. The present systematic review aims to assess the cumulative risk of VTE in individuals with BP compared to healthy individuals.

Background: In the early 1940s, before antihypertensive drugs were available, the Rice Diet Programme (RDP) was developed to treat severe hypertension and, later, diabetes and obesity. Despite significant advancements in dietary management for these conditions since then, debates remain regarding the proper guidelines for sodium and macronutrients intakes. The patient care records of RDP offer a unique source of longitudinal examination of a very low sodium (<10 mmol/day), fat, cholesterol and protein diet on blood pressure (BP), other health markers and survival.

Introduction: Traumatic patients with cervical spine motion restriction have difficulty with endotracheal intubation (ETI) due to the limitations of neck movement and mouth opening. Nevertheless, the removal of the cervical collar for ETI in a prehospital setting may lead to a deterioration in neurological outcomes. This study compares the success rate of ETI utilizing a video laryngoscope (VL) on a manikin, contrasting manual in-line stabilization (MILS) without a cervical hard collar against full immobilization.
