Traumatic auricular amputation due to human bite is an uncommon event. Nonetheless, it poses a difficult challenge for the reconstructive surgeon. Although microsurgery must be performed in some cases, most microsurgical techniques are too complex and must be performed in specialized centers only. Replantation of a severed ear without microsurgery can be a safe alternative as long as a proper technique is selected. Here, 2 successful ear replants performed without microsurgical technique are described. The ear cartilage was used with the perichondrium after degloving of the skin from the cartilage, preserving the perichondrium attached to it, and providing coverage using a temporoparietal facial flap. The skin of the ear was used for coverage as a full-thickness skin graft with very excellent postoperative results.

Purpose: To investigate the presence of uridine-5'-triphosphate (UTP)-activated P2Y1-like nucleotide receptors (P2Y2R, P2Y4R, and P2Y6R) in conjunctival goblet cells (CGCs) and determine if they increase intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) and induce mucin secretion.
Methods: Adult, male rat conjunctiva was used for culture of CGCs. To investigate the expression of P2YRs, mRNA was extracted from CGCs and used for reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) with commercially obtained primers specific to P2Y2R, P2Y4R, and P2Y6R.

This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of camellia oil on 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD) in mice, as well as its effect on the expression of skin-barrier-related proteins. A mouse model of AD was created via topical application of DNCB; subsequently, the animals were randomly divided into four groups: the blank control (Control), model (Model), moisturizing cream (Moisturizer), and camellia oil (Camellia) groups. The Camellia group received camellia oil, whereas the Moisturizer group was treated with moisturizing cream, as a positive control.

The amount of information contained in speech signals is a fundamental concern of speech-based technologies and is particularly relevant in speech perception. Measuring the mutual information of actual speech signals is non-trivial, and quantitative measurements have not been extensively conducted to date. Recent advancements in machine learning have made it possible to directly measure mutual information using data.

The imaging of the live cochlea is a challenging task. Regardless of the quality of images obtained from modern clinical imaging techniques, the internal structures of the cochlea mainly remain obscured. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a safe, low-cost alternative medical imaging technique with applications in various clinical scenarios.

Background: Hinge fracture on the lateral part of the tibia (LHF) is a common complication of medial Open Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy (OWHTO). Many factors have been described as risks for these fractures, but no study has compared an osteotome or an oscillating saw to prevent LHF following OWHTO.
Methods: This "propensity-score-matched" (PSM) study was conducted from data obtained in the literature from 1974 to November 2024.
