Rejuvenation of the aging chest: a review and our experience.

Published: May 2011

Background: Photo-damaged skin of the chest is characterized by skin laxity, lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, erythema, tactile roughness, atrophy, and telangiectasias.

Study Design: A Medline search was performed on rejuvenation of the chest from 1960 to 2010. Practical applications to these procedures are also provided.

Results: Chest-based reports of injectable poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), botulinum toxin, sclerotherapy, and chemical peels, along with lasers and light therapies such as intense pulsed light (IPL), photodynamic therapy (PDT), nonablative fractionated lasers, and ablative fractionated lasers were identified.

Conclusion: Review of the literature revealed that options for minimally invasive treatment options for rejuvenation of the skin of the chest include injectable PLLA, botulinum toxin, sclerotherapy, and chemical peels, along with lasers and light therapies such as IPL, PDT, and nonablative fractionated lasers. For more dramatic results, ablative fractional lasers can be safely used, although longer healing times and potential adverse effects are to be expected. Adverse events are often due to the thinness of the dermis and epidermis and the lower concentration of pilosebaceous units. If treatments are tailored to the skin of the chest, the incidence of adverse events is lower, and patients can be safely treated.

Background: Midges are widely distributed globally. They can transmit numerous serious diseases as well as trigger an allergic reaction in the host. Their saliva contains a variety of proteins that act as sensitizers to stimulate the host's immune response, leading to IgE-mediated allergic symptoms.

Introduction: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin malignancy, accounting for approximately 80% of all non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSCs). Ultraviolet (UV) exposure is a significant risk factor for BCC development, which typically occurs in sun-exposed areas. BCC arising in non-sun-exposed regions, such as the nipple-areola complex (NAC), is exceedingly rare, with fewer than 100 cases reported globally.

Background: Cavernous hemangiomas can occur in various internal organs like the liver, kidney, bladder, and skin, or even in subcutaneous tissues. However, they rarely occur in the lungs, making pulmonary cavernous hemangiomas (PCH) an uncommon finding. Herein, we report a rare case of pulmonary cavernous hemangioma that was surgically resected.

Purpose: This study evaluates the hypothesis that a volumetric skin-sparing planning technique (SSPT) will reduce acute dermatitis in patients treated to the breast or chest wall (CW) with proton pencil-beam scanning (PBS).

Methods And Materials: In January 2022, our center incorporated volumetric-based skin-sparing objectives in addition to skin hot spot evaluation as an SSPT. The SSPT incorporated an objective to limit the volume of a skin evaluation structure (skin-eval) receiving 95% of the prescription dose or more (V95%Rx) to ideally < 50%.
