Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) emerge as a type of promising therapeutic compounds that exhibit broad spectrum antimicrobial activity with high specificity and good tolerability. Natural AMPs usually need further rational design for improving antimicrobial activity and decreasing toxicity to human cells. Although several algorithms have been developed to optimize AMPs with desired properties, they explored the variations of AMPs in a discrete amino acid sequence space, usually suffering from low efficiency, lack diversity, and local optimum.

Precise temporal control of sensorimotor coordination and adaptation is a fundamental basis of animal behavior. How different brain regions are involved in regulating the flexible temporal adaptation remains elusive. Here, we investigated the neuronal dynamics of the cerebellar interposed nucleus (IpN) and the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) neurons during temporal adaptation between delay eyeblink conditioning (DEC) and trace eyeblink conditioning (TEC).

Patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) present with critical hemodynamic compromise with low cardiac output (CO) resulting in end-organ dysfunction. Prognosis is closely related to the severity of shock and treatment of patients with CS is resource intensive. In this review, we consider the current treatment paradigms alongside the evidence that underpins them.

This article examines the recent implementation of Universal School Meals (USM) programs in several US states in the context of the increasing influence of neoliberalism in the public schooling system. By subverting a neoliberal paradigm, USM programs disrupt prevailing narratives of poverty and work to reclaim education's central place in the public sphere. A systems-thinking analysis of this issue reveals USM programs to be a powerful leverage point for change.

The long-term health of former athletes with a history of multiple concussions and/or repetitive head impact (RHI) exposure has been of growing interest among the public. The true proportion of dementia cases attributable to neurotrauma and the neurobehavioral profile/sequelae of multiple concussion and RHI exposure among athletes has been difficult to determine. Across three exposure paradigms (i.
