George Lievin Henri Ellerman (1817-1849) followed his medical-military training at the Military Medical Training College (RKMG) in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from 1835 to 1839, and gained his PhD from Leiden University in 1841. From 1843 to 1849 he was a lecturer in pharmacology at the RKMG. He was one of the first editors of the Nederlandsch Lancet. Together with his fellow board members Donders and Jansen he set this journal on a new course. Due to the new mix of scientific and practice-oriented articles the journal developed into the most important medical scientific journal in the Netherlands; it was however not among the journals that merged to become the Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde [Dutch Journal of Medicine]. In 1846 Ellerman published a Dutch translation of Friedrich Oesterlen's textbook of pharmacology 'Handbuch der Heilmittellehre'. This book was considered to be a complete and lucid survey of pharmacology and a major step towards a more scientific pharmacology. After his death at the age of 32, he was remembered as a good scientist and dedicated, hardworking lecturer.

We have identified FLT1 as a protein that changes during Alzheimer's disease (AD) whereby higher brain protein levels are associated with more amyloid, more tau, and faster longitudinal cognitive decline. Given FLT1's role in angiogenesis and immune activation, we hypothesized that FLT1 is upregulated in response to amyloid pathology, driving a vascular-immune cascade resulting in neurodegeneration and cognitive decline. We sought to determine (1) if in vivo FLT1 levels (CSF and plasma) associate with biomarkers of AD neuropathology or differ between diagnostic staging in an aged cohort enriched for early disease, and (2) whether FLT1 expression interacts with amyloid on downstream outcomes, such as phosphorylated tau levels and cognitive performance.

Sensing-based deep brain stimulation should optimally consider both the motor and neuropsychiatric domain to maximize quality of life of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Here we characterize the neurophysiological properties of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) in 69 PD patients using a newly established neurophysiological gradient metric and contextualize it with motor symptoms and apathy. We could evidence a STN power gradient that holds most of the spectral information between 5 and 30 Hz spanning along the dorsal-ventral axis.

Introduction: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is one of the most common types of urogenital cancer. The introduction of immune-based combinations, including dual immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) or ICI plus tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), has radically changed the treatment landscape for metastatic RCC, showing varying efficacy across different prognostic groups based on the International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium (IMDC) criteria.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective multicenter study, part of the ARON-1 project, aimed to evaluate the outcomes of favorable-risk metastatic RCC patients treated with immune-based combinations or sunitinib.

Background: Due to lack of formal training, young doctors cannot deliver bad news in a way that is expected by patients and their attendants, thereby jeopardizing doctor-patient relationship.
Aim: The aim of this study was to train interns about "breaking bad news" to the patients using a structured module.
Materials And Methods: A workshop comprising interactive lectures and videos followed by debriefing, and discussion was conducted for interns.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the efficacy of treatment and survival after administration of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) in Japanese patients and had endocrine-related and/or other immune-related adverse events (irAEs), as well as irAEs in multiple organs. This is a single-center, retrospective, observational study of 571 Japanese patients treated with ICI at our hospital. We evaluated the occurrence of Grade 3 or higher irAEs and the life expectancy and treatment efficacy after ICI administration.
