Quantum memory at nonzero temperature in a thermodynamically trivial system.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Department of Physics and Center for Theory of Quantum Matter, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, USA.

Passive error correction protects logical information forever (in the thermodynamic limit) by updating the system based only on local information and few-body interactions. A paradigmatic example is the classical two-dimensional Ising model: a Metropolis-style Gibbs sampler retains the sign of the initial magnetization (a logical bit) for thermodynamically long times in the low-temperature phase. Known models of passive quantum error correction similarly exhibit thermodynamic phase transitions to a low-temperature phase wherein logical qubits are protected by thermally stable topological order.

Background: Advance provision of medication abortion, or the prescription of mifepristone and misoprostol before pregnancy occurs, is an unexplored care model aimed at expanding abortion access. We examine motivations for obtaining advance provision from the online telemedicine service, Aid Access, which supports people in the United States.

Methods: Between May and November 2023, we conducted semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 39 people who obtained advance provision between January 2022 and April 2023.

Skin substitutes: from conventional to 3D bioprinting.

J Artif Organs

December 2024

Division of Thrombosis Research, Department of Applied Biology, Biomedical Technology Wing, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, 695012, Kerala, India.

Three-dimensional bioprinting is getting enormous attention among the scientific community for its application in complex regenerative tissue engineering applications. One of the focus areas of 3-D bioprinting is Skin tissue engineering. Skin is the largest external organ and also the outer protective layer is prone to injuries due to accidents, burns, pathologic diseases like diabetes, and immobilization of patients due to other health conditions, etc.

Optimizing CNC turning of AISI D3 tool steel using Al₂O₃/graphene nanofluid and machine learning algorithms.

Heliyon

December 2024

School of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Technology, Wallaga University, P.O. Box 395, Nekemte, Ethiopia.

Turning AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) D3 tool steel can be challenging due to a lack of optimal process parameters and proper coolant application to achieve high surface quality and temperature control. Machine learning helps in predicting the optimal parameters, whereas nanofluids enhance cooling efficiency while preserving both the tool and the workpiece. This work intends to utilize advanced machine learning approaches to optimize process parameters with the application of hybrid nanofluids (AlO/graphene) during the CNC turning of AISI D3.
