[Computerized tomography in paleopathology].

Z Orthop Ihre Grenzgeb

Röntgendiagnostisches Zentralinstitut, Universitätsspital Zürich.

Published: October 1990

Paleopathology is the study of human ailments in bygone times of which written records are non-existent or inadequate. Essentially, it is based on osteological findings. Radiologic examination, which reveals the inner structure of the bones, plays an important role. Additional information can be obtained with CT, primarily because there is no superimposition of the bones. The very detailed radiologic demonstration of a periosteal reaction on a tibia in a case of acquired syphilis is illustrated.

Rationale And Objectives: To investigate the performance of two diagnostic models based on CT-derived lung and mediastinum radiomics nomograms for identifying cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients.

Materials And Methods: Hospitalized participants with COPD were retrospectively recruited between September 2015 and April 2023. Clinical data and visual coronary artery calcium score (CACS) were collected.

Predicting anastomotic leak in patients with esophageal squamous cell cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy using a nomogram based on CT radiomic and clinicopathologic factors.

BMC Cancer

March 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Shandong Cancer Hospital and Institute, Shandong First Medical University, Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, No.440 Jiyan Road, Huaiyin District, Jinan, Shandong, People's Republic of China.

Background: Anastomotic leak (AL) is a common complication in patients with operable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) and radical esophagectomy. Therefore, this study aimed to establish and validate a nomogram to predict the occurrence of AL.

Methods: Between March 2016 and December 2022, ESCC patients undergoing NCRT and radical esophagectomy were retrospectively collected in China.

Horizontal impact of extensive incisor retraction on alveolar bone.

BMC Oral Health

March 2025

Department of Orthodontics, Cranial-Facial Growth and Development Center, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, 22 Zhongguancun South Avenue, Haidian District, Beijing, 100081, PR China.

Objective: To explore the horizontal impact of extensive incisor retraction on alveolar bone and to investigate the relationship of changes in alveolar bone thickness (ΔBT) with horizontal retraction distance of the incisal edge (HRD) and horizontal retraction distance of alveolar ridge crest (HRD') in orthodontic treatment.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 84 patients who underwent orthodontic extraction treatment, involving extensive incisor retraction (≥ 3 mm). Pre-treatment (T0) and post-treatment (T1) cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data were collected.

Background: Advancements in understanding spinal disorders and diagnostic techniques have increased the range and complexity of spinal surgeries. However, constraints have arisen in gaining experience techniques through actual surgical cases due to considerations of medical safety, efficiency in working hours, and cost-effectiveness. As such, off-the-job training is expected to play an increasingly significant role.
