Objectives: Estrogen is known to prominently benefit neuronal syndromes and neurodegenerative diseases. Ginsenoside Rg1, an active ingredient found in a Chinese plant, ginseng root, was previously demonstrated to exert estrogen-like activity. This study was performed to assess the neuroprotective effect of ginsenoside Rg1 against apoptosis induced by β-amyloid protein 25-35 (Aβ(25-35)) in primary cultured rat hippocampal neuronal cells as well as in the underlying mechanisms.
Methods: We first measured cell viability and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release from primary cultured rat hippocampal neurons. After that, the inhibition effects of ginsenoside Rg1 on neuronal cell apoptosis were evaluated with flow cytometric analysis. Furthermore, western blot analysis was used for detecting the expression of apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2, Bax, and active caspase 3.
Results: The results show that ginsenoside Rg1 could increase neuronal viability and reduce LDH release; rescue cell apoptosis induced by Aβ(25-35); decrease the expression of caspase 3, increase the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax at the protein levels compared with the cells only treated with Aβ(25-35).
Conclusions: Taken together, our results indicate that the apoptosis induced by Aβ(25-35) could be reversed by ginsenoside Rg1. Furthermore, this neuroprotective effect is probably mediated by up-regulating the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax that activates caspase 3.

This article explored the specific mechanism by which ginsenoside Rg_1 regulates cellular autophagy to attenuate hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R) injury in HL-1 cardiomyocytes through the microRNA155(miR-155)/neurogenic gene Notch homologous protein 1(Notch1)/hairy and enhancer of split 1(Hes1) pathway. An HL-1 cell model with H/R injury was constructed, and ginsenoside Rg_1 and/or Notch1 inhibitor DAPT and miR-155 mimics were used to treat cells. Cell counting kit(CCK)-8 was used to detect the relative viability of HL-1 cells with H/R injury.

Background: Neural stem cells (NSCs) disrupt with aging, contributing to neurodegeneration. Ginsenoside Rg1 (Rg1), a compound found in Ginseng, is known for its anti-aging effects; however, its role in the progression of aging NSCs remains unclear. Therefore, this investigation explored the impact of Rg1 on the growth and maturation of aging NSC and elucidated its underlying molecular mechanisms.

Bone marrow hematopoietic injury encompasses a range of pathological conditions that disrupt the normal function of the hematopoietic system, primarily through the impaired production and differentiation of bone marrow hematopoietic cells. Key pathogenic mechanisms include aging, radiation damage, chemical induction, infection and inflammation, and cross-talk with non-hematopoietic diseases. These pathological factors often lead to myelosuppression and myeloid skewing.

Despite the rapid advancement of glycosidase biotechnology, ginsenoside-transforming rhamnosidases remain underexplored due to a lack of research. In this study, we aimed to bridge this gap by evaluating eight putative rhamnosidases for their ability to transform ginsenosides. Among them, a novel rhamnosidase (C118) from was identified as being efficient at hydrolyzing ginsenoside Re.

As a critical disease usually infected by , with a worldwide effect on dairy animals, subclinical mastitis is characterized by persistence and treatment resistance. During mastitis, the blood-milk barrier (BMB)'s integrity is impaired, resulting in pathogen invasion and milk quality decline. In this study, it was found that ginsenoside Rg1 (Rg1), a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound derived from ginseng, inhibited the onset of tight junction (TJ) dysfunction and ameliorated lipoteichoic acid (LTA)-induced BMB disruption inside and outside the organisms.
