A communicating vein between the left renal vein and the left ascending lumbar vein has only rarely been reported in the imaging literature. There are very few reports of varicosity of this communicating vein. Nonetheless, awareness about this communicating vein is of utmost importance for surgeons performing aortoiliac surgeries and nephrectomies as it may pose technical difficulties during surgery or cause life-threatening retroperitoneal hemorrhage. Varicosity of this venous channel may be mistaken for paraaortic lymphadenopathy, adrenal pseudo-mass, or renal artery aneurysm. We report a case of a patient with varicosity of this communicating vein, which mimicked a left renal artery aneurysm. A novel hypothesis is also proposed to explain the relationship with abdominal pain.

Human induced pluripotent stem cell derived hepatocytes (hiPSC-heps) hold promising value for acute liver failure (ALF) treatment, while their therapeutic efficacy is usually limited by low cell bioactivity and untargeted in vivo accumulation. Here, inspired by vascularity supporting cellular architectures in the tissues and organs, a novel vascularized hiPSC-heps spheroid based on microfluidic microcapsules is presented for liver repair via orthotopic transplantation. The microcapsules are comprised of aqueous cores that facilitate hiPSC-hep aggregating into spheroids, and hybrid hydrogel shells of sodium alginate and hyaluronic acid methacryloyl (HAMA).

We sought to characterize cellular composition across the cardiovascular system of the healthy Wistar rat, an important model in preclinical cardiovascular research. We performed single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) in 78 samples in 10 distinct regions, including the four chambers of the heart, ventricular septum, sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node, aorta, pulmonary artery, and pulmonary veins, which produced 505,835 nuclei. We identified 26 distinct cell types and additional subtypes, with different cellular composition across cardiac regions and tissue-specific transcription for each cell type.

Sinus pericranii is a rare venous anomaly characterized by abnormal communication between intracranial and subperiosteal veins, and reports of trauma-induced sinus pericranii are even rarer. Herein, we report a case of delayed-onset sinus pericranii resulting from a traumatic injury to the left side of the midline of the forehead sustained in early childhood. The anomaly was successfully resected via a coronal incision within the hairline, followed by meticulous bone wax sealing.
