The development of advanced catalysts frequently employs trial-and-error methods and is lack of highly controlled synthesis, resulting in unsatisfactory development efficiency and performance. Here we propose a data-driven prediction coupled with precise synthesis strategy to accelerate the development of single-atom catalysts (SACs) for efficient water purification. The data-driven approach enables the rapid screening and prediction of high-performance SACs from 43 metals-N4 structures comprising transition and main group metal elements, followed by validation and structural modulation for improved performance through a highly controllable hard-template method.

Nano-Perforated Silicon Membrane with Monolithically Integrated Buried Cavity.

Micromachines (Basel)

January 2025

DTU Nanolab, National Centre for Nano Fabrication and Characterization, Technical University of Denmark, Ørsteds Plads B347, 2800 Kongens Lyngby, Denmark.

A wafer-scale process for fabricating monolithically suspended nano-perforated membranes (NPMs) with integrated support structures into silicon is developed. Existing fabrication methods are suitable for many desired geometries, but face challenges related to mechanical robustness and fabrication complexity. We demonstrate a process that utilizes the cyclic deposit, remove, etch, and multi-step (DREM) process for directional etching of high-aspect-ratio (HAR) 300 nm in diameter nano-pores of 700 nm pitch.

With rising concerns about antimicrobial resistance, the identification of new lead compounds to target multidrug-resistant bacteria is essential. This study employed a fast miniaturized screening to simultaneously cultivate and evaluate about 300 marine strains for biosurfactant and antibacterial activities, leading to the selection of the deep-sea BCP32. The integration of tandem mass spectrometry molecular networking and bioassay-guided fractionation unveiled this strain as a prolific factory of surfactins and nobilamides.

Introducing halogen-bonded gates into zeolitic frameworks for efficient benzene/cyclohexene/cyclohexane separation.

The separation of C cyclic hydrocarbons (benzene, cyclohexene, and cyclohexane) is one of the most challenging chemical processes in the petrochemical industry. Herein, we design and synthesize a new SOD-topology metal azolate framework (MAF) with aperture gating behaviour controlled by C-Br⋯N halogen bonds, which exhibits distinct temperature- and guest-dependent adsorption behaviours for benzene/cyclohexene/cyclohexane. More importantly, the MAF enables the efficient purification of benzene from its binary and ternary mixtures (selectivity up to 113 ± 2; purity up to 98% +), which is the highest record for benzene/cyclohexane/cyclohexene separation to date.

Bacteriocins, naturally derived antimicrobial peptides, are considered promising alternatives to traditional preservatives and antibiotics, particularly in food and medical applications. Despite extensive research on various bacteriocins, cyclic varieties remain understudied. This study introduces Gassericin GA-3.
