Through this work, the WCCC has identified a few key barriers to innovation in wound care. The WCCC aims to accelerate the development of science-based, patient-centered solutions and address public policy challenges related to ensuring patients receive early access to innovative treatment options.

A digital version of the maze test (dMaze) was recently developed using a digital pen (12 ms temporal precision) to uniquely capture the process of test completion, reflecting the thinking effort, potentially more sensitive to early cognitive deficits in preclinical AD. The sensitivity of these novel digital maze test variables-Wall Penetration Count and Speed Standard Deviation (Speed SD)-to detect early amyloid-β burden was evaluated, hypothesizing that greater amyloid accumulation would be associated with greater variability of speed, and more wall penetration errors while completing the task, reflecting a greater thinking effort.

Background: Now, at the beginning of the era of disease-modifying drugs for AD, many questions must be addressed in the effort to optimize benefits. Important issues remain regarding the timing and duration of amyloid-removing immunotherapy and the potential advantages of combination therapies. Anti-fibrillar amyloid antibodies effectively remove amyloid but may not be appropriate for maintenance of the low amyloid state; secretase inhibition is a reasonable alternative.

Increasing the use of microphysiological systems (MPS) in Three Rs and regulatory applications is a nuanced but important goal, which would also help increase their scientific impact. There are three distinct and important stakeholder groups that each play a unique role in expediting the use of MPS for regulatory purpose - namely, commercial MPS developers, end-users and regulators. Additionally, non-profit organisations, such as the 3Rs Collaborative (3RsC), can help coordinate these efforts.
