Introduction: In this study, we aim to compare the levels of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), as indicators for healing, in two groups of patients - operated with a classic periodontal surgical technique and the same technique but using a dental microscope.

Materials: We included 14 patients with ages between 12 and 26 years, average 14±6.2 years. Eight patients were women and six men. All patients presented gingival hypertrophy because of the orthodontic treatment on the mandibular arch. We performed gingivectomy on one-half of the mandibular arch by classic periodontal surgery and on the other half of the mandibular arch by a microscope-assisted gingivectomy.

Methods: In the hypertrophied gingiva, the expression of MMP9 was identified using immunohistochemical-staining techniques. For immunological determination of MMP9 in GCF we performed Elisa tests.

Results: We found different levels in different moments of the healing process for the two hemiarcades.

Conclusions: We consider that faster healing in case of microscope-assisted gingivectomy may be related to the expression of MMP-9 in the GCF.

: Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleep-related breathing disorder associated with craniofacial morphology and dental arches. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between obstructive sleep apnea and the morphometry of dental arches and upper airways. : Forty patients were enrolled in the study, and the polysomnographic parameters evaluated were the apnea hypopnea index (AHI) and the oxygen desaturation index (ODI).

Purpose: The primary objective of this retrospective study was to evaluate the survival outcomes of immediately loaded acrylic resin complete arch fixed implant-supported prosthesis (CAFIP) fabricated from the denture conversion protocol. The secondary objective was to evaluate the early implant survival outcomes associated with these prostheses.

Material And Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted to study the clinical outcomes data of immediately loaded conversion prostheses and immediately loaded implants.

Is cranial anatomy indicative of fossoriality? A case study of the mammaliaform Hadrocodium wui.

Determining the ecology of fossil species presents considerable challenges due to the often fragmentary preservation of specimens. The mammaliaform Hadrocodium wui from the Jurassic of China is known only from the cranium and mandible but may have had a fossorial lifestyle. It shares morphological similarities with talpid moles and soricid shrews and is closely related to other fossorial mammaliaforms.

The present article describes a step-by-step maximally digitalized workflow protocol with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) in partial-arch edentulous patients rehabilitated with fixed dental prostheses and removable partial dentures (FDPs and RPDs). Facial digitalization, intraoral scans, and functional mandibular movement recordings were used to create a 4D virtual patient on commercially available CAD software. The fixed components including post-and-cores, both metal-ceramic with extra-coronal attachment and monolithic zirconia crowns, and the RPDs were manufactured by computer numerical controlled direct milling.

Objective: This longitudinal clinical study monitored annually the maxillary and mandibular bone remodeling and masticatory function in complete denture (CD) wearers rehabilitated with implant-retained mandibular overdentures (MO) over three years and combined radiographic and masticatory function data to assess the correlation between bone remodeling and masticatory function.

Design: Thirty-nine MO wearers were monitored annually to assess changes in: i) residual ridge in the anterior and posterior maxillary region; ii) posterior height and posterior area index (PAI) in the mandible; and iii) masticatory function. Bone remodeling was measured through linear and angular measurements using panoramic radiographs.
