Unlabelled: We recently reported that subantimicrobial-dose doxycycline (SDD) significantly reduced serum bone-resorption biomarkers in subgroups of post-menopausal women. We hypothesize that changes in serum bone biomarkers are associated not only with systemic bone mineral density (BMD) changes, but also with alveolar bone changes over time. One hundred twenty-eight eligible post-menopausal women with periodontitis and systemic osteopenia were randomly assigned to receive SDD or placebo tablets twice daily for two years, adjunctive to periodontal maintenance. Sera were analyzed for bone biomarkers. As expected, two-year changes in a serum bone biomarker were significantly associated with systemic BMD loss at the lumbar spine (osteocalcin, bone-turnover biomarker, p = 0.0002) and femoral neck (osteocalcin p = 0.0025). Two-year changes in serum osteocalcin and serum pyridinoline-crosslink fragment of type I collagen (ICTP; bone-resorption biomarker) were also significantly associated with alveolar bone density loss (p < 0.0001) and alveolar bone height loss (p = 0.0008), respectively. Thus, we have shown that serum bone biomarkers are associated with not only systemic BMD loss, but with alveolar bone loss as well.

Objective: Aim: To investigate the peculiarities of deviations of preoperative values of biochemical markers of inflammation in the blood serum of patients with degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine after transpedicular fixation, with a complicated postoperative course to predict the development of various postoperative complications.
Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: The content of glycoproteins (GP), sialic acids (SA), C-reactive protein (CRP), seroglicoids (SG), haptoglobin (HG), Veltman`s test (VT) were investigated. The results are comparable by the Student-Fisher method.

Background: The incidence of diabetic foot infections is increasing due to the rising number of persons with diabetes and the prolonged life expectancy. It is vital to differentiate soft-tissue infection (STI) from diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO), as treatment modalities and durations vary widely, but this can be challenging. We aimed to assess the blood concentration levels of the high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB-1) in STI and DFO compared to healthy subjects, and to investigate whether this protein could contribute to differentiating STI from DFO.

Background: Stromal-cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1) plays a crucial role in hematopoiesis and has been implicated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) pathogenesis. Understanding its relationship with chemotherapy outcomes could lead to improved therapeutic approaches for elderly AML patients.
Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed the medical records of elderly AML patients (n = 187) and compared serum SDF-1α levels with age-matched controls (n = 120).

Introduction: Kidney transplantation is the preferred treatment for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), enhancing survival and quality of life. However, kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) are at high risk for bone disorders, particularly low bone turnover disease, which increases fracture risk. Teriparatide, an anabolic agent, may provide a beneficial treatment option for these patients.

The present study endeavors to investigate the roles and underlying mechanisms of miR-656-3p and Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 (BMP-2) in DFH. It was recruited 94 patients with normal fracture healing (NFH) and 88 patients with DFH of the femoral neck.
