Diarrhoeagenic (DEC) pathotypes are defined by genes located on mobile genetic elements, and more than one definitive pathogenicity gene may be present in the same strain. In August 2022, UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) surveillance systems detected an outbreak of hybrid Shiga toxin-producing /enterotoxigenic (STEC-ETEC) serotype O101:H33 harbouring both Shiga toxin () and heat-stable toxin (). These hybrid strains of DEC are a public health concern, as they are often associated with enhanced pathogenicity.

Despite the increasing burden of dengue in Kenya and Africa, the introduction and expansion of the virus in the region remain poorly understood. The objective of this study is to examine the genetic diversity and evolutionary histories of dengue virus (DENV) serotypes 1 and 3 in Kenya and contextualize their circulation within circulation dynamics in the broader African region. Viral RNA was extracted from samples collected from a cohort of febrile patients recruited at clinical sites in Kenya from 2013 to 2022.

Introduction: In colostomy-related complications, variceal hemorrhage particularly induced by cirrhosis and portal hypertension is seldom encountered. The onset of peristome variceal hemorrhage necessitates swift and effective intervention to prevent potentially life-threatening outcomes such as hemorrhagic shock and recurrent stoma bleeding.

Case Presentation: This report details a case of repeated varicose vein hemorrhage around the stoma in a patient with liver cirrhosis.
