In Drosophila melanogasler, the wings apart-like (wapl) gene encodes a protein that regulates heterochromatin structure. Human wapl gene is human homolognue of wapl, they have same function. HWAPL is a cohesion-binding protein that affect chromosomal segregation. It has a character of oncoproteins and linked to cervical carcinogenesis and tumor progression.

Article Synopsis
  • Superoxide Dismutase 3 (SOD3) helps reduce oxidative stress in the body by converting superoxide into hydrogen peroxide, which can cause biomolecular damage when not regulated.
  • This research used a large dataset (GSE2109) of 2,158 cancer samples to analyze the expression of SOD3 and its correlation with other genes, leading to the identification of genes that are both positively and negatively correlated.
  • From the analysis, 12 significant disorders were linked to SOD3, revealing 35 novel genes associated with conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Renal Tubular Dysgenesis, which may help in understanding the role of oxidative stress in these diseases.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) uses latency programs to colonize the memory B-cell reservoir, and each program is associated with human malignancies. However, knowledge remains incomplete of epigenetic mechanisms that maintain the highly restricted latency I program, present in memory and Burkitt lymphoma cells, in which EBNA1 is the only EBV-encoded protein expressed. Given increasing appreciation that higher order chromatin architecture is an important determinant of viral and host gene expression, we investigated roles of Wings Apart-Like Protein Homolog (WAPL), a host factor that unloads cohesin to control DNA loop size and that was discovered as an EBNA2-associated protein.

Early B cell lymphopoiesis depends on E2A, Ebf1, Pax5 and Ikaros family members. In the present study, we used acute protein degradation in mice to identify direct target genes of these transcription factors in pro-B, small pre-B and immature B cells. E2A, Ebf1 and Pax5 predominantly function as transcriptional activators by inducing open chromatin at their target genes, have largely unique functions and are essential for early B cell maintenance.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cohesins are crucial for various cellular processes like chromosome segregation and DNA repair, and mutations in cohesin components can lead to severe developmental disorders and cancers.
  • - Eco1 and Rad61 are two opposing regulators of cohesin, with Eco1 stabilizing cohesin-DNA interactions during cell division while Rad61 encourages cohesin dissociation.
  • - Research highlighted that the lethality of double mutants lacking both Eco1 and Rad61 is linked to low levels of the cohesin subunit Mcd1, with findings revealing that certain genetic deletions and transcription factors can restore cell viability by affecting Mcd1 expression.

Cannabinoids are reported to have neuroprotective properties and play a role in neurogenesis and neuroplasticity in in vitro and in vivo models. Cannabinol (CBN) is a minor cannabinoid produced by the degradation of Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol in L. and exhibits anti-oxidant, analgesic, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects.
