Alzheimers Dement
December 2024
Michigan State University, Grand Rapids, MI, USA.
Background: A recent study of familial Alzheimer's disease identified a mutation in the RELN gene that appeared to delay the onset of dementia. It was hypothesized that this RELN-COLBOS variant protected against dementia by enhanced signaling at reelin receptors. We previously developed a secreted, bio-active reelin fragment (R36) and packaged it into AAV.

A substantial portion of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 experience prolonged complications, known as Long COVID (LC). A subset of these patients exhibits the most debilitating symptoms, similar to those defined in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). We performed bulk RNA sequencing (RNAseq) on the whole blood of LC with ME/CFS, at least 12 months post-onset of the acute disease, and compared them with controls.

Deficits in social behavior are found in neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Since abnormalities in cerebellar morphology and function are observed in ASD patients, the cerebellum is thought to play a role in social behavior. However, it remains unknown whether the cerebellum is involved in social behavior in other animals and how cerebellar circuits control social behavior.
