In this Letter, we show that switching between repulsive and attractive Casimir forces by means of external tunable parameters could be realized with two topological insulator plates. We find two regimes where a repulsive (attractive) force is found at small (large) distances between the plates, canceling out at a critical distance. For a frequency range where the effective electromagnetic action is valid, this distance appears at length scales corresponding to 1 - ϵ(ω) ∼ (2/π)αθ.

Previous works show the key role of electrostatics in the SARS-CoV-2 virus in aspects such as virus-cell interactions or virus inactivation by ionic surfactants. Electrostatic interactions depend strongly on the variant since the charge of the Spike protein (responsible for virus-environment interactions) evolved across the variants from the highly negative Wild Type (WT) to the highly positive Omicron variant. The distribution of the charge also evolved from diffuse to highly localized.

Skin-penetrating nematodes infect nearly one billion people worldwide. The developmentally arrested infective larvae (iL3s) seek out hosts, invade hosts via skin penetration, and resume development inside the host in a process called activation. Activated infective larvae (iL3as) traverse the host body, ending up as parasitic adults in the small intestine.

The high activity of water in aqueous battery electrolytes can trigger side reactions, limiting their large-scale application. Additives that form contact pairs (CPs) with cations by coordinating with them can effectively reduce water's activity. However, due to the complex interactions between ions, additives, and solvent molecules and the fact that current strategies for additive screening primarily rely on static physical parameters, the dynamic mechanisms that govern the modulation of ion solvation sheaths are still poorly understood.

We report the interactions and dynamics of chemically powered soft swimmers that undergo autonomous oscillatory motion. The interaction of autonomous entities is the basis for the development of collective behaviors among biological organisms. Collective behaviors enable organisms to efficiently attain food and coordinate against threats.

Bicontinuous microparticles have advanced transport, mechanical, and electrochemical properties and show promising applications in energy storage, catalysis, and other fields. However, it remains a great challenge to fabricate bicontinuous microparticles of block copolymers (BCPs) by controlling the microphase separation due to the extremely narrow region of a bicontinuous structure in the phase diagram. Here, we demonstrate a strategy to balance the phase separation of BCPs and fluorinated additives at different length scales in emulsion droplets, providing a large window to access bicontinuous microparticles.
