Magnetic properties of thin composite films, consisting of non-interacting polystyrene-coated γ-Fe(2)O(3) (maghemite) nanoparticles embedded into polystyrene-block-polyisoprene P(S-b-I) diblock-copolymer films are investigated. Different particle concentrations, ranging from 0.7 to 43 wt%, have been used. The magnetization measured as a function of external field and temperature shows typical features of anisotropic superparamagnets including a hysteresis at low temperatures and blocking phenomena. However, the data cannot be reconciled with the unmodified Stoner-Wohlfarth-Néel theory. Applying an appropriate generalization we find evidence for either an elastic torque being exerted on the nanoparticles by the field or a broad distribution of anisotropy constants.

In this paper, we demonstrate that torsional surface elastic waves can propagate along the curved surface of a metamaterial elastic rod (cylinder) embedded in a conventional elastic medium. The crucial parameter of the metamaterial rod is its elastic compliance s44(1)ω, which varies as a function of frequency ω analogously to the dielectric function εω in Drude's model of metals. As a consequence, the elastic compliance s44(1)ω can take negative values s44(1)ω<0 as a function of frequency ω.

Microtia, along with trauma, represents one of the main causes of external ear malformation. Different clinical techniques were developed for the reconstruction of the auricle, but they all have some drawbacks. This work is focused on the development of an innovative 3D porous scaffold, printed by Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and based on laser-scanned images of the healthy contralateral ear of the patient.

Background: Given the lack of models for carotid artery dissections (CAD), we aim to investigate effects of beta-aminopropionitrile (BAPN) combined with physical damage on the arterial walls of rats, and to establish a high-incidence and low-mortality CAD model.
Methods: Sixteen SPF SD rats (3-week-old) were divided into two groups. Group B was given 0.

Humanoid robots are becoming a global research focus. Due to the limitations of bipedal walking technology, mobile humanoid robots equipped with a wheeled chassis and dual arms have emerged as the most suitable configuration for performing complex tasks in factory or home environments. To address the high redundancy issue arising from the wheeled chassis and dual-arm design of mobile humanoid robots, this study proposes a whole-body coordinated motion control algorithm based on arm potential energy optimization.

Soft robots have developed gradually in the fields of portability, high precision, and low noise level due to their unique advantages of low noise and low energy consumption. This paper proposes an electromagnetically driven elastomer, using gelatin and glycerol (GG) as matrix materials and a mixture of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and Ag NWs (MA) as the conductive medium. Inchworm-inspired and spider-inspired soft robots have been developed, demonstrating fast movement speed, flexibility, and loading performance.
