The ubiquitous presence of fragmented plastic particles needs comprehensive understanding of its fate in the environment. The long-term persistence of microplastics (MPs) in the environment is a significant threat to the ecosystem. Even though various degradation mechanisms (physical, chemical, and biological) of commonly used plastics have been demonstrated, quantifying the degradation of MPs over time to predict the consequence of plastic littering and its persistence in the environment remains a challenge.

This study explores the potential of polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) and polyacetylated flavones (PAFs) as novel analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents. Eight derivatives, isolated from Gardenia oudiepe bud exudate or semi-synthesized from commercial kaempferol, underwent evaluations in various in vivo, in vitro, and in silico models. Acetic acid-, formalin-induced pain, and hot-plate tests were conducted in mice (n = 6).

Abscisic acid (ABA), a phytohormone traditionally recognized for its role in plant stress responses, has recently emerged as a significant player in mammalian defense mechanisms. Like plants, various mammalian cell types synthesize ABA in response to specific health challenges, although the precise pathways remain not fully elucidated. ABA is associated with the regulation of inflammation and insulin signaling, prompting extensive research into its potential as a therapeutic agent for various diseases.

Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato is a platyhelminth parasite and the etiological cause of cystic echinococcosis (CE), a zoonotic and neglected disease that infects animals and humans worldwide. As a part of the biological arsenal of the parasite, cathepsin L proteases are a group of proteins that are believed to be essential for parasite penetration, immune evasion, and establishment in the tissues of the host. In this work, we have cloned and sequenced a new putative cathepsin L protease from Echinococcus canadensis (EcCLP1).
