Bacterial infections are an important issue in current clinical medicine. The severity of infectious diseases has increased dramatically in recent years, which is also due to increasing numbers of resistant bacteria, including strains producing broad-spectrum beta-lactamases. The study aimed at determining the prevalence of ESBL- and AmpC-positive Enterobacteriaceae at the Department of Neonatology, University Hospital Olomouc. Enterobacteriaceae were isolated from clinical samples from infants hospitalized at the Department of Neonatology, University Hospital Olomouc over a period of 2 years. ESBL- and AmpC-positive isolates were subjected to basic genetic analysis. In the study period, a total of 1,526 isolates of the Enterobacteriaceae family were identified, including 55 (3.6%) cases of the ESBL phenotype and 17 (1.1%) AmpC-positive isolates. Genetic analysis of ESBL-positive isolates revealed a majority of CTX-M enzymes. Among AmpC beta-lactamases, the EBC, CIT, DHA, and MOX types were detected. An Escherichia coli strain was isolated with mutations in the promoter region of the ampC chromosomal gene that are associated with overproduction of the relevant enzyme.

Objectives: AmpC β-lactamases are neglected compared with ESBL as a cause of third-generation cephalosporin (3GC) resistance in Enterobacterales in low- and middle-income countries and the burden is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of AmpC β-lactamase-producing and in clinical specimens from three clinical research laboratories in Southeast Asia.
Methods: Stored clinical isolates of and resistant to ceftriaxone or ceftazidime or cefpodoxime and ESBL confirmation test negative were screened using MASTDISCS AmpC, ESBL and Carbapenemase Detection Set-D72C.

Objectives: Taniborbactam is a boronate-based β-lactamase inhibitor in clinical development in combination with cefepime.
Methods: Cefepime-taniborbactam and comparator broth microdilution MICs were determined for patient isolates of Enterobacterales (n = 20 725) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 7919) collected in 59 countries from 2018 to 2022. Taniborbactam was tested at a fixed concentration of 4 mg/L.

European starlings are widespread migratory birds that have already been described as carrying bacteria resistant to extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESC-R). These birds are well known in Tunisia because they spend the wintertime in this country and are hunted for human consumption. The goal of our study was to estimate the proportion of ESC-R in these birds and to characterize the collected isolates using whole-genome sequencing.

Despite the fact that the selective pressure of antibiotics on wild birds is supposed to be very weak, they are considered potential vectors of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Obligate scavengers such as vultures can present high proportions of resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESC) and multi-drug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, partially due to feeding stations that are provisioned with livestock carcasses from intensive farming. Here we investigated whether griffon vultures () from two populations located in the French Alps, which feed on livestock carcasses from extensive farms, may carry such resistant bacteria.
