The UK is committed to meeting a series of 'high-level marine objectives' which are required to satisfy national obligations and to meet international commitments for the marine environment. There are more than 16 such international high-level policy driven obligations and commitments, together with more than 18 European and more than 12 of national origin. In the UK, there is an assumption that the current and planned monitoring will provide evidence to demonstrate achievement against these high-level objectives.

Newborn screening for acylcarnitine-related inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) is a critical test after birth. Conventional extraction methods require shaking with heating, centrifugation, nitrogen blowing, redissolution, etc., and the total time is more than 1 h.

Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1) plays a vital role in cancer by modulating DNA repair mechanisms, inducing genomic instability, and serving as a promising biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. In this work, we present the development of a novel DNAzyme signal amplification-directed point-of-care sensing system (Dz-PGM) for the sensitive and specific detection of FEN1. The Dz-PGM system utilizes DNAzyme signal amplification in conjunction with a personal glucose meter (PGM) for reporting, capitalizing on a biochemical cascade initiated by FEN1 recognition.

Background: This large-scale study analyzes factors affecting diagnostic accuracy of low-dose myocardial perfusion imaging and correlation with coronary angiography in a real-world practice.
Methods: We compared data extracted from routine reports of (i) low-dose [Tc]sestamibi stress-MPI performed with no attenuation correction and predominantly exercise stress testing and (ii) the corresponding coronary angiography.
Results: We considered 1070 pairs of coronary angiography/stress-MPI results reported by 11 physicians.

The EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD, 2008/56/EC) requires Member States to establish monitoring programs for Descriptor 10-Marine Litter, to track progress towards achieving a marine Good Environmental Status (GES). Italy conducted systematic monitoring of Floating Marine Macro Litter (FMML) in three Marine Reporting Units: Western, Central Mediterranean, and Adriatic (2018-2022, 534 surveys, 2719 km across all seasons). This study assessed baseline values for FMML amount and composition, giving indication for tracking GES progress.

Airflow models are powerful tools for ventilation design to achieve odour and corrosion mitigation in sewer networks. Currently, there lacks a model able to efficiently predict in-sewer dynamic airflows, as all available dynamic models with an acceptable accuracy are computationally demanding. In this study, a swift dynamic airflow model based on an ordinary differential equation (ODE) is derived by simplifying the one-dimensional Navier Stokes Equations (NSE), supported by the observation that the NSE solutions always display negligible spatial variations in air velocity when applied to a sewer conduit.
