Published: May 2011

Continuous culture conditions designed to achieve a dynamic equilibrium between phytoplankton growth and nutrient input were established for Phaeodactylum tricornutum, Isochrysis galbana and Chlorella salina. The technique was used to determine the no observed effect concentration (NOEC) and lowest observed effect concentration (LOEC) for algae after spiking with diesel oil. P. tricornutum (NOEC=0.25mg/l, LOEC=0.3mg/l) was more sensitive than I. galbana (NOEC=2.5mg/l, LOEC=2.6mg/l), while C. salina (NOEC=16.0mg/l, LOEC=17.0mg/l) was the most tolerant. Continuous renewal of medium ensured that experimental conditions remained stable throughout the test period and is a more environmentally relevant method for assessing the effects of many contaminants.

Hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE) preconditions liver grafts before transplantation. While beneficial effects on patient outcomes were demonstrated, biomarkers for viability assessment during HOPE are scarce and lack validation. This study aims to validate the predictive potential of perfusate flavin mononucleotide (FMN) during HOPE to enable the implementation of FMN-based assessment into clinical routine and to identify safe organ acceptance thresholds.

Objectives: This scoping review aimed to synthesize the existing data about psilocybin pharmacokinetics to learn what has been described regarding body disposition and safety when psilocybin was used in controlled research settings.

Methods: We performed a scoping literature review following the framework proposed by the JBI manual for evidence synthesis. Controlled clinical trials reporting pharmacokinetic data of psilocybin were considered appropriate for inclusion.

The current investigation explores tri-hybrid mediated blood flow through a ciliary annular model, designed to emulate an endoscopic environment. The human circulatory system, driven by the metachronal ciliary waves, is examined in this study to understand how ternary nanoparticles influence wave-like flow dynamics in the presence of interfacial nanolayers. We also analyze the effect of an induced magnetic field on Ag-Cu-/blood flow within the annulus, focusing on thermal radiation, heat sources, buoyancy forces and ciliary motion.

Network-Based Methods for Deciphering the Oxidizability of Complex Leachate DOM with OH/O via Molecular Signatures.

In landfill leachates containing complex dissolved organic matter (DOM), the link between individual DOM constituents and their inherent oxidizability is unclear. Here, we resolved the molecular signatures of DOM oxidized by OH/O using FT-ICR MS, thereby elucidating their oxidizability and resistance in concentrated leachates. The comprehensive gradual fragmentation of complex leachate DOM was then revealed through a modified machine-learning framework based on 43 key pathways during ozonation.
