As stroke is the third leading cause of death after heart failure and tumors worldwide, cerebrovascular diseases reached substantial attention. In the past few years, significant progression has been seen in identification of genetic variants in the background of stroke and other cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events. Examination of these variants is a new approach to recognize pathogenesis of disorders that hopefully helps in future prevention and prospects of screening and, optimistically, it contributes to special care of patients susceptible for stroke. In the background of ischemic stroke several genetic variants have been identified, which localize in genes encoding proteins involved in hemostasis, renin-angiotensin system and lipid metabolism. The number of these variants exponentially increases permanently due to rapid spreading of genome wide association studies. The goal of this review is to summarize the results of genetic studies on ischemic stroke. Here the authors focus on genetic variants which can have major role in personalized medicine and prevention of stroke.

Background: Surgical clipping and endovascular coiling are both effective in preventing aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, but the choice between these interventions remains controversial, leading to treatment disparities across medical centers.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, including relevant two-arm clinical trials up to September 2023, sourced from Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. Our primary outcomes were complete occlusion rates during mid-term and long-term follow-ups.

Predictive Value of Left Atrial Strain for Thrombotic Events in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy without Atrial Fibrillation.

Radiol Cardiothorac Imaging

February 2025

From the Department of Cardiology (L.P., W.J., J.L., W.Q., Y.X., Y.K., Q.Z., Y.C.), Department of Geriatrics (K.W.), and Center of Rare Diseases (Y.C.), West China Hospital, Sichuan University, No. 37, Guo Xue Road, Chengdu, Sichuan 610041, China; and Wexner Medical Center, College of Medicine, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio (Y.H.).

Purpose To assess the predictive value of left atrial (LA) fast long-axis strain derived from cardiac MRI for thrombotic events (TEs) in individuals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Materials and Methods This secondary analysis of an ongoing prospective trial (Chinese Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR1900024094) included consecutive participants with HCM without atrial fibrillation (AF) who underwent cardiac MRI from January 2012 to December 2020. The LA fast long-axis strain was obtained by semiautomatically tracking the distance between the atrioventricular junction and the midposterior LA wall.

Background: Small remnants may penetrate the arterial intima more efficiently compared to large triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TGRL). We tested the hypothesis that the importance of remnant cholesterol for the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) may depend on the size of the remnants and TGRL carrying cholesterol.

Methods: The cholesterol content of small remnants and large TGRL were measured in 25 572 individuals from the Copenhagen General Population Study (2003-2015) and in 222 721 individuals from the UK Biobank (2006-2010) using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Introduction: In this study, a meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the therapeutic effect of Dapagliflozin (DAPA) on animals suffering from myocardial ischemia reperfusion compared to the group that did not receive treatment.

Methods: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria two researchers performed the primary and secondary screening based on the title abstract and full text. After data extraction, meta-analysis was performed using STATA software.

The optimal endovascular management of cervical carotid dissection causing tandem occlusion remains uncertain. We investigated the impact of emergent carotid stenting during endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in patients with tandem occlusion secondary to cervical carotid artery dissection. This was a secondary analysis of patients treated with EVT for AIS due to occlusive carotid artery dissection and tandem occlusion included in the retrospective international Antithrombotic Treatment for Stroke Prevention in Cervical Artery Dissection (STOP-CAD) study.
