Blood samples were collected from 46 domestic ruminants comprising of 23 trypanosomiasis infected and 23 uninfected control groups to study some biochemical and haematological effects of trypanosomiasis under natural condition. The effect of trypanosome infection in ruminant animals showed that infected animals had significantly lower (P<0.05) packed cell volume, erythrocyte count and higher (P<0.01) mean cell volumes than uninfected animals. Leucocytosis, reticulocytosis and thrombocytopenia were also observed. The infection also produced a decrease in albumin (P<0.001), significant increase in total protein and bilirubin levels. These changes were not seen in the animals that were not infected. The outcome of the work shows that herds are severely affected by the disease, and therefore supports the prospect of routine check as an epidemiologic tool in trypanosomiasis based on its abnormal effects in blood.

HN1 Functions in Protein Synthesis Regulation via mTOR-RPS6 Axis and Maintains Nucleolar Integrity.

Haematological and Neurological Expressed 1 (HN1) is an oncogene for various cancers and previously has been linked with centrosome clustering and cell cycle pathways. Moreover, HN1 has recently been reported to activate mTOR signalling, which is the regulator of ribosome biogenesis and maintenance. We explored the role of HN1 in mTOR signalling through various gain- and loss-of-function experiments using biochemical approaches in different cell lines.

Environmental and biological measurements of the anesthetic isoflurane and its possible toxic effects in veterinarians.

Sao Paulo State University - UNESP, Medical School, GENOTOX Laboratory, Botucatu, Brazil. Electronic address:

We evaluated both environmental (workplace) and biological (urine) exposure to the anesthetic isoflurane concerning the effects of such exposure on the hematological, hepatic, and renal parameters in veterinarians. Samples were collected from exposed and nonexposed (volunteers) groups to assess hematological and several biochemical markers, and isoflurane was measured in the workplace air and veterinarian's urine. Isoflurane was detected at high levels in the air and urine.

Purpose: To investigate if Yttrium-90 radioembolization (Y90 TARE) is a safe and effective treatment in people living with HIV (PLWH) with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) across the BCLC stage spectrum.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of all patients with HCC presented at a multidisciplinary institutional liver tumor board who underwent Y90 TARE between January 2014 and June 2023. Thirty-nine patients with documented HIV seropositivity prior to Y90 TARE and adherence to HAART were included.

Non-communicable diseases (NCD) are associated with inflammation and oxidative stress which is further associated with omega-6 (ω6) and omega-3 (ω3) fatty acid (FA) imbalance favoring ω6 FA. By improving ω3 FA consumption, this imbalance can be altered to control NCD. Previously we have reported blends of flaxseed oil (FSO, ω3 FA) with palm olein (PO) or coconut oil (CO) were thermo-oxidatively stable with good storage stability and could improve ω6:ω3 ratio in cell lines.

Neonatal sepsis, a severe infection in newborns, remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among preterm infants. This study aimed to investigate the distribution of pathogens responsible for early-onset sepsis (EOS) and late-onset sepsis (LOS), the annual variability of pathogens responsible for each type of infection, and potential trends in their profiles in preterm infants from a tertiary care neonatal intensive care unit over a ten-year period. We analyzed 177 episodes of confirmed bloodstream infection between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2023.
