Analysis of RNA has many applications and has become increasingly important both in basic research and clinical application. The type and number of particular mRNA transcripts expressed in M. tuberculosis (MTB) bacilli under various conditions can provide insight into models of pathogenesis. MTB mRNA has also been demonstrated to correspond to viability in drug-treated MTB culture systems (1), thus providing an alternative to the lengthy and often difficult bacterial viability assays used in determining drug susceptibility. Isolation of MTB RNA has an immediate application in evaluation of treatment efficacy in patients. Recent studies on smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment with an optimal chemotherapeutic.

Mycobacterium bovis, the causative agent of animal tuberculosis, exhibits a broad host range - infecting, inducing pathology and transmitting from both bovine and wildlife hosts. Considerable effort has been extended to understanding the role wildlife may play in persistence and spread of infection. Infected cervids can spread infection to conspecifics and sympatric livestock as observed in the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginanus) population of Michigan, USA.

Recurrent isolated sleep paralysis (RISP) is a rare but distressing condition characterized by episodes of temporary immobility during transitions between wakefulness and sleep. This report describes a 30-year-old female presenting frequently with nightmares, sleep paralysis, and associated stress, successfully managed with a holistic approach incorporating yoga, meditation, chanting, and vitamin D3 supplementation. The patient's significant history of osteoporosis (in February 2019, bone density T-score <-2.

Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential for reducing morbidity and mortality in tuberculous meningitis (TBM). This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the Xpert MTB/RIF assay for the diagnosis of TBM in patients with subacute lymphocytic meningitis. This cross-sectional study included 65 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens from patients at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai University Hospital, Thailand, between January 2015 and March 2016.

A substantial collection of mycobacteriophages has been isolated and characterized, offering valuable insights into their diversity and evolution. This collection also holds significant potential for therapeutic applications, particularly as an alternative to antibiotics in combating drug-resistant bacterial strains.
